Hey guys i think ive decided on my next rifle, now it seems that most of them are Century arms ? that seems to be the only tantal ive been able to find...

also any info on them ? I wikied them and they are actually pretty new rifles i think mid late 80's , I would also like to know what type of receiver Century uses :? nds ? or do they build in another country and just import and let us do the whole 922r game ...thansk for the info

Atlantic Firearms has (or had) some Tantals (dunno if they're Century)

IIRC there are some CA OAL/folded length issues that require either an extension on the butt or a really long muzzle brake

I bought the fixed stock Polish Tantal from Atlantic Firearms. Without looking in the safe, I believe mine was built on a global trades receiver. I only wished they offered the fixed stock one's with wood furniture.

If you can get someone to ship to CA for $550, that's not bad. I paid the $619 that Atlantic sells them for. But I also had to have it shipped to CWS to remove the offending:rolleyes: pistol grip. Mine was built by Global Trades and not Century.

If you can't find someone to ship to CA, Freakshow Mann. should be able to get it and convert it for you - Then to your local FFL

Mine is on a DCI-labeled receiver, and is engraved "1993" on the front trunnion. Tapco FCG. US marked solid stock.

Do a search before buying. There are rumours of some Century-made Tantals having oversize bores ( aftermarket barrels ), which are supposedly prone to keyholing with some rounds. As always, YMMV, FWIW, caveat emptor, etc.

No. you'll need a NDS-2T

No. you'll need a NDS-2T

Or a NDS-2 and change the Tantal selector to a standard selector.

Dumb question....

Can someone tell me exactly what a "tantal" is, and how it compares to an AK?

diffrent caliber, and diffrent triger group, side folding wire butstock, plastic handguard furniture, and extra long flash hider/muzzle brake /grenade launcher

Heres a beautiful example of a Tantal (wz88)

it would look 10x better with a bakelite magazine

so guys say i buy a tantal kit...$379 here: http://gunthings.com/

Then add:

+ receiver + transfer fee + DROS (over $100 easy)
+ build fee (minimum $200, unless you do it yourself)
+ U.S. parts (minimum $50)

The price of kits has gotten to the point where it hardly makes sense to build them anymore (AKs in general, not just Tantals). Better to just buy the complete gun from somebody and have it shipped here.

thats exactly what i was thinking last nite, when everythign is said is done im going to be around the high 400's low 500's if i build it...and it might not come out looking that great..where as if i buy one from a reputable builder ( overland industries) which has a great product and beautiful finishes on their AK's for maybe $100-150 more with waranty...so idk im still searching

tantals are great guns think of a polish ak-74. i thought about geting one but i don't need one right now. they are late 80's though mid 90's production so they are in excellent shape.
