I've been reading a little about Saiga rifles. Apparently some folks make a big deal about "dimpled" receivers. What is a dimpled receiver and why is it desirable? Thanks.

IIRC dimpled receivers have just that, two dimples which supposedly make AK mags wobble less or something to that effect

The dimpled receivers are desirable to people who plan to do a Saiga to AK conversion, by moving the triggerguard forward, adding a pistol grip and AK stock, and convert it to accept AK magazines. The dimples are required when using AK mags.

If you go to the saiga forum you will see lots of saigas that are converted for ak mags that don't have dimples.
Here's a bunch on the saiga forum. http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?showtopic=13290
