Hello, I'm new to cal-guns. I've never owned a rifle before but It feels like our goverment is slowly taking away our right to own a firearm, I really do feel like I need to get myself a rifle, not only to support our right but also to defend my home and have some fun, hunting is pretty damn fun.
I need some help getting started, I been browsing through different rifles, ran into the kel-tec su-16, but heard that was the wrong way to go. I'm thinking of either going for a yugoslavian sks, or a saiga 7.62x39.
Big 5 was selling some yugo-sks but they we're going for $399, i'm not too good on the pricing of rifles but that seems like way too much, might I be wrong?
Could you guys help me out? i'm leaning more to the saiga but I don't even know where to start to get my hands on one, and I read a list of illegal firearms in cali and saiga was included. I tried to get one off the internet but the process is just so sketchy, some how by the end of the whole process I had signed up for a credit card(which I never got) with some random company, but no rifle! lol.
Does anyone know of any Gunshops that might sell them around the los angeles area? I don't mind a drive either.
How much should I be paying for these rifles if I happen to get my hands on them?
If no gun shops, is there a good trust worthy website I can go too?
any point in the right direction.
thanks.

Just go to http://www.ableammo.com and find what you want. They will help you find a dealer to do a transfer through. Normally will run you $75 for the transfer ($50) and DROS ($25).

Yeah, I meant to say I put this thread in the wrong forum. Does anyone know how to put it in the rifle forum?
Thanks for the help with that link, but they don't seem to have saigas, they only got century's with pistol grips.

Check out Ammo Bros in Cerritos or Cold War Shooters in Highland for the Saigas.

ThroughtheJungleMist ,

Welcome to Cal Guns. First you state you are new to guns and the 2A.

Different situations require different tools. First figure what you want it for. Home Defense, Self Defense, Conceal Carry, Hunting, Camping, other....Different tools for differnt situations.

I'd first suggest going to a local range and renting whatever you're interested in. You may need to take a test and get your HSC card before purchasing.
After you find the right handgun/rifle/shotgun, find the best price.

I'm not sure you'd want to use a hunting rifle for home defense. sounds like you're looking for two or three separate firearms. One for HD/SD one for hunting.

I'd recomend a:
Remington 870 12 gague shotgun for Home Defense
Remington 700 or Savage 10 rifle in .308/.30-06 for Hunting
S&W 686 or Ruger GP100/SP101 .38/.357 for Self Defense Revolver
Glock 17/19 9mm or Kimber/Springfield 1911 .45 for Self Defense Pistol

Get the .45ACP; Handgun safety certificate enables you to purchase a handgun in CA. Gun stores offer it.

HSC Card - Handgun Safety Certificate
You gotta have one to purchase and most times to rent a handgun
http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/hscinfo.php

The 21 is cool, but for a beginner shooter 9mm ammo is cheeper than .45
Cheeper ammo means more shooting. More shooting means better shot. :-)

HSC: Handgun Safety Certificate

Just a test to see if you know how to safely handle the model handgun you plan to buy.
