If you have bought the land specifically for that reason then yes

you really shouldnt ask yourself questions like this.
then you start wondering things like, "why don't I own a house yet?" and "how come I havne't bought my girlfriend a ring?" or "why have I not had my kidney stone looked at yet?"

im not going to vote or take the pole. However i have been shooting for over 20 years. possibly close to around 30. So with that many years its hard to put a number on it. Thats like saying how much money have you spent on gas in the last 8 years. Who the heck knows. its a lot but i have no idea

I could have bought a very nice car with what I have spent on my hobby. Oh well it's my money, I earned it and I'll spend it as I wish. Then when I die my kids can open a gun shop.. LOL

Not more then the amount I've/we've put in those darn machines at the casino! Oh well! Life is a gamble! And who knows, put $20 in and 3 pulls of the arm- Cha Chaaang! Enough for another addition to the armory!

Its now 4:38pm, Saturday evening- guess where we are headed!

But to answer the original question- about 2k so far- since January.

30 years shooting.
1-3 guns purchased per year.
Occasionally a few sold.
BRD.
Reloading...start w/ a single and then a progressive press.
Dies, tumblers, scales, bullets, primers, powder, brass, etc
Gun safe.
Range fees.
The Black Powder phase.
Optics. Mounts. Holsters.
Trips to desert and mountains to shoot.
Handgun competitons a few years on-and-off.
A zillion accessories from the gun shows.
Gun-specific tools.
A large supply of different gun locks I have been forced to buy.
Just the DROS fees alone is substantial.

I'm sorry you asked.

I want to meet your tax preparer.

Back when I raced cars as my primary hobby there were stories of guys who would go racing with the rent money.

Addiction is never pretty.

I HATE when people ask me that. I just figure whatever I paid, it was obviously worth it, so why think about it. That being said, I know my total cost is FAR less than 10,000 since I've only been doing this for a year and a half.

Well, last weekend I took one rifle (that I have over $5K into) to a match. Of course, I also took front and rear rest (figure over $1K), a weather station and a bunch of other little things. I drove a total of 1660 miles at 12mpg, paid $110 in match fees, shot about 130 rounds of match quality 50 BMG at about $4.00/round plus time (which were loaded with my reloading equip that I probably have about $2000 into (just to load 50BMG))......Oh, should I mention the truck, softtopper shell and truckbedz air mattress that I bought, in part, to attend matches with? Then, there was food, and gambling expenses. Lodging was free! Oh yea, don't forget that I tok time off work to do this so, add a few more bucks to the total.

OK, I'll be honest, I made a week long trip out of it and went fishing and shooting at the Boca shooting facility too. Yea, I had more than one gun with me. Probably about 25 more (would have made an interesting traffic stop!) but, I was illustrating the point that, including the cost of one rifle, I had more invested in one two day match than the OP has invested into shooting in his lifetime. That's not to dis the OP, everyone is different, has different levels of disposable income and different levels of interest and commitments to shooting sports. I remember when I was in college, It took me a long time to be able to build up the cheapest competitive smallbore silloutte rifle that I could. I think I had about $350 in it after the cost of the rifle, scope, rings, drilling and tapping, bedding, stock shaping and refinishing and re-blueing and that was a lot of money to me. Heck, it still is. The amount of money that one choses to invest in this sport isn't as important as the amount enjoyment one gets from it. Until your choice of vehicles is determined by: "will my rifle case fit in it?", "is there enough room for all my shooting gear? (that I need for each trip)", etc. don't worry, you aren't spending too much money on this hobby.

I think I've spent about $5,000 to $7,000.

Oh, and that's just since March of 08.

I would like to know how much my grandfather spent on his collection, he has passed though, but he has 200+ rifles and old guns. Mainly Colts and 1911's.

I think the collection is valued around 300k+ I can't wait to get my hands on those 1911's.

One man bought a perfect original 68 Camero in 1970 for 2500.00 took great care of it and left it all original. Bought a used Toyota to commute to work.

Another man Bought the exact same 68 Camero and tricked it out for racing.

Guy #1 has a $250,000 car collection

Guy #2 has no bank account and a used racing car

DO YOU SEE THE LIGHT ?

lol, and to never use anything.

But will man #1 actually sell the car for 250,000?

Man #2 may have no bank account but I'm sure he has better stories then man #1 :p

is this lifetime? year? quarter?
we have teens to seniors here, so a lifetime number can be very misleading.
If I spend what I have spent this year so far, till I reached the avg lifespan age, it will be easily over $200k, assuming prices stayed the same, and they are not.

...this is long way of saying "decline to state" or "dont remind me" :D
