(Not sure where CALIFORNIA_NRA_INFO is, perhaps on vacation, but we have some VERY hot updates that must go out, so I suppose I'll post to calguns. These were sent out to the FORUM ARMY email list - an alert at 1:00 and a followup at 5:00 PM, so if you are a participating member, please post them elsewhere. - Mike Haas)

The 2007-2008 session of the California legislature officially closes at midnight on 8/31/2008. However, they may adjourn early. It is imperative that we use every remaining moment to make our voices heard on the issues that remain! THESE BILLS MAY COME UP FOR A VOTE WITHIN THE NEXT FEW MINUTES!

At this time, these issues are "hot" and moving very quickly. As they are both on the Senate Floor, you can "kill 2 birds" with one phone call, email or FAX. (May not be enough time for direct mail.)

AB 2948 - Cow Palace Gun Show Ban - AB 2948 failed it's first vote on the Senate floor but remains a threat. Please thank these lawmakers for their NO vote on the bill and ask they continue their opposition.

The California Senate adjourned for today with no action on the two hot items we have been asking you to contact lawmakers about - AB 2948 and AB 1634. However, we expect them to start again at 10:00 AM tomorrow.

This is a good opportunity to KEEP UP THE PRESSURE! Please continue to try to call, email and FAX the below Senate members and urge their continued opposition to AB 2948 and AB 1634. (Note that the anti-pet people were at the capitol today in force urging support for AB 1634.)

Sorry CALIFORNIA_NRA_INFO, didn't mean to infer anything negative. It would be OK if you had gone on vacation. Truth is, you're a volunteer like myself and yes, we have lives.

Just to be clear, the only reason I posted is the first alert went out at 1:00 PM and when I was getting the second ready (at 5:00 PM), I didn't see it on calguns. I may have (probably did) missed it if you did post it.

Without question, you are very reliable in posting the Forum Army messages and allow me to thank you here as well as ALL the Forum Army participants. You perform a valuable service and I see lots of Forum Army posts on other forums too.

My whole thing is to "get the word out" and you have been a great help. Seems to be your thing too.

2A rights have NOTHING to do with hunting!
By opposing this bill, we would be playing the game of the anti-2A movement which tries to condition the public to the notion that 2A is for "sporting target practice, and hunting".
I recommend that folks ignore the NRA's ill recommendation on the spay & neuter bill.

Then perhaps I should not pay attention to the issues that matter to other calgunners because they dont affect me. Where do we draw the line? Do as you wish but dont tell me how to think. The two are related yet equally separate. I will vote with those on my side, and not out of fear of how it will look.

Satex, but I don't remember anyone electing you (or even ASKING you) to define what the Second Amendment covers. Rather, 4,000,000 gun owners put their faith in NRA and I'm one of them.

And I disagree - the Second Amendment has to do with keeping and bearing firearms to maintain the security of a free state. A nation (or family) isn't very secure if it doesn't have food to eat. And hunting is the ORIGINAL method of accomplishing that for one's family.

Your attitude (MY gun-rights are more important that YOUR gun-rights) is an anathema for everything the Second Amendment stands for. You are just as wrong as hunters who think black, ugly guns can/should be banned. These are divisive attitudes that DO NOT contribute to the security of ANYTHING but the success of freedom's enemies.

I look at it this way. Even though some hunters believe that black rifles have no business on their hunting grounds and many left us BRD sufferers in a lurch. I will support their goals in hopes that they see that we (black rifle owners) and they (hunters) can both work towards a common goal and see it come to fruition.

I don't know how or when gun enthusiasts became two separate groups, but I hope that I will see the day when we are again one conscience working towards a common goal.

For all you hunters reading this... I do not infer that all hunters are against black rifles. But there have been a vast (vocal) number (think Jim Zumbo) that, to coin the political phrase, "are on the other side of the aisle".

Yep - received from H. Paul Payne at the capitol at 9:30...
AB1634 was just voted on and received 5 YES votes and 18 NO votes (including Perata and Yee).

The bill is "on call" and could be voted on again at any time.

Please keep calling and emailing the Senators.

Please note that "PetPac" (a pro-pet organization) is at the capitol working with NRA to defeat this onerous bill. This is GREAT organizational cooperation - HATS OFF to both PetPac and NRA! Way to go!

I look at it this way. Even though some hunters believe that black rifles have no business on their hunting grounds and many left us BRD sufferers in a lurch. I will support their goals in hopes that they see that we (black rifle owners) and they (hunters) can both work towards a common goal and see it come to fruition.

I don't know how or when gun enthusiasts became two separate groups, but I hope that I will see the day when we are again one conscience working towards a common goal.

Let's make it easy. If it involves firearms and the safe and legal use of them, then it is 2A related. No 'sides of the aisles' in that one.

Completely agree, except those who would divide us will try to do so into many more than 2 groups. They will try to pit these groups against each other whenever they can - AW shooters, Single-action shooters, target shooters, shotgun shooters, IPSIC shooters, air-gun shooters, etc.

Satex, do you see a common thread starting to emerge there? You don't really want to take the direction of freedom's enemies, do you?

08/22/2008 - UPDATE 11:25 AM - The California Senate has adjourned for
the weekend after delivering AB 1634 another defeat. The bill failed it's SECOND Senate vote, receiving 5 YES votes and 27 NO votes.

These groups are physically at the capitol fighting this bill - NRA (http://calnra.com/legs.shtml?year=2008&summary=ab1634), PetPAC (http://petpac.net) and the
California Outdoor Heritage Alliance (COHA) (http://outdoorheritage.org). (No other groups are present.)
