I was wanting to get away from my 1911 fetish for a while. The criteria I have result in few choices. Some suggestion would be welcome.

*All metal (3/4 of the choices gone right there. Steel frame not necessary, just metal.)
* Single action or striker fired (same thing)

That's it! Those two filters eliminate just about everything outside 1911s. You would think more people would want all metal single actions, wouldn't you?

I like the CZ but just can't get over the short, narrow slide. Love Sigs but most all are DA/SA. What's left?

Are you sure you don't really want another 1911?

It sure sounds like it...

Browning HP?

Hi-power. I'm assuming you're referring to the CZ75 model but, CZ also makes models with barrel length dust covers and wider slides.

Are revolvers out of the question?

Brand new from a gun store? If so, then I agree, the choices are very limited. And if you exclude CZ's, then you are down to a Browning Hi-Power and maybe a handful of other ones.

Now, if you can PPT, then you have more choices.

Could be time to look at some wheel gun's, If you don't have any.

Sig P238 is all metal SAO. There is an alloy frame version and steel frame version on roster. But you should check out a HiPower.

Yup had one. Now kicking myself. I may be looking for another very soon.

One downside was mags. Heck, they were $50/$60 each.

I honestly don't really even notice it anymore.

Any 9mm 1911's in your collection?

Yeah. I have a Dan Wesson Guardian in 9mm. Really amazing gun. Love it. Best trigger ever and 4.25" barrel on a standard size, bobtailed frame.

Kinda same boat....all my guns are metal. Had to buy a Beretta 1301 semi semi-auto shotgun to keep sane.

Found myself researching Glocks yesterday :TFH:. I know they shoot well and are customizable, but.........

Move over for one more on that boat.

With the exception of a 92FS, all I own are steel pistols. I wouldn't mind getting a PPQ but those off-roster asking prices are beyond insanity. On the flip side, I like the Beretta 85FS in nickel but the darn thing is too pretty to shoot.

Sig P220 SAO but I don't think it is on the roster so would have to be ppt. I've been a die-hard 1911 guy and never thought I would switch but I picked up a P220 Carry and it is my new favorite; DA/SA though.

Ooh, nice one.

Well, you should probably just get the CZ then... You know you want to.

Drink the Kool-Aid, it's delicious.

Hahaha. Great gun. I know lots that swear by them. When I played with one, I couldn't get over that short height on the slide. When I reach up to rack it, totally different feel than others. Maybe it's just about getting used to it.

Should you take the PPT route for more options?

The only metal striker-fired gun I can think of is the HK P7 series.

metal framed Kahrs ( striker fired )

HiPoints ( SA, striker fired )

TC Contenders/Encores, CV Scout pistols - SA.

Bond derringers ( SA )

Some of the the so-called "Olympic pistols" exempt from the roster - S&W 41, Walther GSP, etc.

CZ75 Single Action! You won't regret it. This one has been worked over by CGW and has a 3lb, 3oz trigger pull and a 1mm reset. Its like a whole different gun!

http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa275/Gr8fuljack/2015-08-12_15.15.30.jpg

Watch out though, CZs have a bad habit of multiplying, especially after you have some work done to them.

When you played with it in the LGS, were you using a slingshot or overhand grip to rack it?

I did modify my technique to an overhand, push/pull rather than just pulling a slingshot. (I used to do either/or.) Makes a big difference, and it's really a non-issue now.

Look to buy some Tanfoglio's like Witness Elite Match, Stock 2, Stock 3, Limited, etc. Since you basically said you didn't want any CZ's. Those are all off roster guns that are not easy to find. When you do find one at a reasonable price, you will enjoy the hunt of looking for one and then enjoy the pleasures of shooting it.

I guess the CZ slide takes some getting used to, but I don't find it to be difficult to work with, it's my favorite semi auto, although I just picked up a P220 combat so that might change. They really are great guns. Don't let small potatoes get in the way of getting one.

Very cool. Maybe I'll take another look.

Forgot to add, I re-trained myself to use an overhand rack versus the slingshot, and have no problem with it as someone else mentioned. When I get a bit bored with the roster guns, I just start dropping into my Local shops and usually find something interesting, give that a try and definitely also check out revolvers.
