View Full Version : Collecting in CA - Practically Impossible

This is certainly an unpleasant state for gun rights supporters, but so far I've usually been able to find what I want, even if it costs a little bit more through a PPT. Before things get really hairy here, I want to make some progress on my Israeli collection so I picked up an Israeli Browning Hi-Power (http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.aspx?item=F1FNHPMK3I&name=Israel+Police+FN+Belgium+MK+3+Hi+Power+9mm+Pi stol&groupid=5389), came in pretty beat up but that's part of the charm. Always thought that if you could have one Israeli pistol, it would be the Jericho though...

Thanks to our ignorant political leaders in CA, I can't buy this off-roster Polymer IMI 941 Jericho (http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.aspx?item=F1JER941FL&name=IMI+JERICHO+941FL+9mm+Handgun&groupid=5389) from AIM Surplus, it's only $399 too. What a bummer. How sweet would it be to have an Israeli police trade-in to appreciate. Not a lot of demand for this pistol so it seems to be nearly impossible to find for sale as a PPT.

I suppose it's okay because countless lives were saved from these "unsafe" handguns. Coincidentally, they're trying to figure out who won the Iowa Caucus tonight. How the hell can anyone in Iowa vote for anti-2A politicians, can't they see what happened here.

Anyone also looking for a hard to find piece in CA to add/complete a collection?

Nope. Not impossible. Just very expensive. You gotta buy most everything PPT and they want an arm and a leg for it.

You sound like a shill for that FUD spreading gun shop in Culver City with the pony tail guy. They sell a lot of old junk. Come clean. ;)

It's practically impossible. You can only over-pay so many times, knowing that a few hundred miles away, it costs half as much...after a while, it becomes more and more difficult to justify.

I'm still keeping my eye out for a Jericho 941 though...Looks like a missed one a couple weeks ago in the for sale section. Went for quite a bit more than in a free state, but what can ya do.

Hah, they do sell a lot of 'old junk.' I go in there from time to time. Been tempted to buy a luger more than once.

Is there such a thing? I have a W. German p220, but it is in 45ACP. Never heard of a 9mm version. The only 9mm versions back then were the P225 (single stack) and the P226. After the wall came down they offered the P230 (.380) and then the .40sw (P229) and .357 Sig (P226). I don't recall them offering anything else during that time period.

The first P220's built were in 9mm- way back in 1975. Sig produced the 9mm P220 as a special order item until at least 2001.

There is a way to solve your dilemma:

1. Move out out of that socialist paradise and relocate to a free state. Stop giving the dumb-o-crats your tax money so they can use it to pass ever more restrictive gun laws.

2. When you get to a free state, don't vote for more dumb-o-crats.

3. Enjoy your new found freedom. I did it and trust me, it was worth it ten times over.

Yes there is.

It was first imported by Browning and sold as the BDA.

BSG, I would also keep an eye out for the Browning.

Actually if a person is into collecting COLLECTIBLE C&R handguns they are just fine in CA. Since now there is a hype about getting the latest and the greatest off roster handguns , I have added some REALLY nice pieces to my S&W revolver and military 1911 collection. Paid for them way less than I would on Gun Broker . Most out of state dealers will have no problem shipping C&R handguns to Your FFL .

Darn near practically impossible...

from that site, wow... "the barrel has a slot cut into it, the rifling is removed from the barrel apart from the last cm or so, a hardened pin or rod is welded in the chamber entrance, the locking lugs on barrels are ground away, the feed ramp is milled back, the frame rails are weakened, the ejector is ground back, the locking lugs inside the slide are ground down, the breech face is ground back and the firing pin is ground back or at times removed."

I've been very lucky since I moved to Utah. I've picked up a W.German P226 and a W.German P228. I seems that recently that a lot of Police departments recently off loaded their Sigs. Some of them were W.German guns.

Fortunately, the two sigs I picked up were in mint condition. Both had original boxes and all paperwork. They even had the original test target. When I bought the 226 at Cabelas a bunch of the sales said, they didn't even know they had the gun or they would have bought it.

With this state I've just come to find the hunt for the gun is half the fun for collecting. You win some and loose some but no need to loose sleep over it. I've been on the hunt for a S&W model 65 with a 3" barrel for 2 years now. A year ago I was able to get a 3" model 65 Lady Smith. Wasnt looking for one but got it. I'm still after that other 65 though.

Doubt this..the police unions will hopefully fight this.

Just buy what you want now as prices are relatively good for California
