Found here. (http://www.nrahab.com/2008/08/15/steel-challenge-in-the-news/)

Opening paragraphs:

licia Setting and Molly Smith are both 11 years old and are among the world's best pistol shooters. They are two girls who say they enjoy guns over dolls.

Alicia can fire a pistol at five targets, hitting the bull's-eye on each of them in a blistering four seconds. Molly is just as fast. They are both competing in the preteen division in the Steel Challenge World Speed Shooting Championship.

"It takes training, practice, and a lot of guts," says Alicia.

ABC 7's Leo Stallworth wrote the piece. Here's Mr. Stallworth. I'm guessing the Texas background helped with the tone of his article:

Leo Stallworth was born in Los Angeles, but spent most of his childhood in Texas. He was bitten by the broadcasting bug while attending college and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in Broadcast Journalism. He began his reporting career on the radio in Dallas, Texas.

His first television reporting position was in Tyler, Texas but he quickly moved on to new assignments as a reporter in Sarasota, Florida, and an Anchor in Florence/Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. His last stop before joining ABC7 was as a Reporter/Anchor in St. Louis, Missouri.

Leo enjoys working out, reading, watching movies, and spending quality time with his family. Leo is married and the father of five children.

I nosed around the site but couldn't find an email address for Mr. Stallworth to email him (or his boss) a polite thank you for writing his story. Can anybody help with that?

UPDATE: his email address is: Leo.Stallworth@abc.com

Direct link to the article, not that blog above:

Pretty good video, I like the reporting. A quick Google on Leo shows he's gone up against the LAPD's Chief Bratton (http://laist.com/2008/03/06/abc7_vs_lapd.php) but the video clip seems to be nonop at the moment. I couldn't find any contact info either...

I called ABC7's main line (818) 863-7777 and asked for Mr. Stallworth's email address. The nice person who answered said she did not know it but would be happy to put me through to his voicemail. I left a message identifying myself and thanking him for his fine report, and mentioning that there are lots of us out here who are starving for quality journalism in this vein, so he and his report are greatly appreciated.:)

If you call and leave a nice message too, not only will he feel good but station management will probably want to know why he's suddenly so popular. Which would be a good thing IMO.:D

On a suggestion from another Calgunner I sent an email to Mr. Stallworth suing a "best guess" email address. It wasn't quite correct, but it got routed to him. I found that out this morning when he responded to my email with a pleasant reply.

You can drop him a quick note of appreciation here: Leo.Stallworth@abc.com
