View Full Version : I need to know about the 30 day wait

I purchased a pistol from a private party in California and the DROS date is 8/5/08 and the release date is 8/16/08. I have just purchased another pistol from an out of State party in Arizona.
Do I have to follow the State law stating that I can only purchase a pistol every 30 days which would mean that my new out of State purchase would be considered 9/5/08 and the pistol could only be sent to my FFL in California on the date of 9/5/08? Or can the pistol be sent into California before that date of 9/5/08 and sit at my FFL untill the date of 9/5/08 when I would then fill out the PPT paperwork and start my 10 day wait?

The initial PPT is 30 day exempt so you can start the second any time. The second transfer is out of state and therefore not a private party transfer so it will block any non-ppt purchases for 30 days afterward. You can ship and do the paperwork on the AZ transfer any time. PPT do not count towards the one in 30 day rule.

So I can ship this pistol to my FFL in California or do I have to do the paperwork in Arizona? And I can start this transfer now?

Have the handgun shipped to your FFL in CA at your earliest convenience and then start the paperwork for the AZ transfer once your FFL in CA has received the handgun. Since you're a resident of CA, the paperwork and transfer must take place in CA.

Just be sure that the Arizona handgun is either on the Roster or exempt from the Roster (C&R, single action, etc).
