I have a friend of mine that said he got an M-4 and that he had help configuring it to be CA legal. Please, by all means correct me if I am wrong, and I am certain this is buried somewhere in the threads, but my understanding is that if the weapon is named by Make, Model that there is no legal way to configure it to not be an AW? My understanding was that only if it wasn't defined in class 1, or class 2, that it could then be classified if it had a detachable mag and other "evil" features.

M-4 is on the list, is it not?

If it is a Colt it is on the list. A lot of people say "M4" when they mean any generic carbine configured as an M4 carbine. If it is a true Colt, it is banned.

Not true, there is at least one "Colt" marked lower that I know of that is not on the list. ;)
