I'm usually in no hurry to sell and do consignments when I no longer want or have an interest in a particular gun. Got fairly lucky & sold 3 C & R revolvers last weekend, longest time in the shop was 2 days. So with some extra $$$ I'm working on a deal, want to sell a rifle rather than do a consignment. I don't want to run around the SF Bay Area gun stores only to be told they do consignments only - anyone know which stores buy outright? I know most of the stores pretty well, just not on this subject.

I hear Targetmasters will buy outright, but totally rape you on it. What are you selling?

Thanks for the info on TM. I figure my travels would get me about as far as SJGE & maybe Sportmans in Campbell.

I'm working a deal with about a Friday afternoon deadline, so my feeling is hitting a gun store would be best. Can't wait to do the 10 DROS and all. Happens to be a Weatherby Accumark in 340 WM, with a brake. Rather than what I'd like to get, what would be a low sale or high sale deal with a store? The thing's had about 50 rounds through it, looks like new.

+1 on that idea. Post it in WTS Firearms and then PPT it at the SJGE.

I've heard rumors of them buying like new Kimbers for $250 from people strapped for cash, I bet you get 20-30% what you paid for it from TM if what I heard is true.

Anyone know if Big Ben still has an FFL? Maybe you could pawn it for a few weeks, then buy it back and sit on it for the price you want for it.

Well that's awfully nice of them.

I know I'll take a decent hit on it, the things are over priced to begin with. If it doesn't work out I'll hang on to it, there's always another deal to be had.

Cabelas in Reno, NV buys firearms for whatever they are going to sell them for minus 30%. I just sold them a Weatherby over and under 12 gauge that I bought a couple years ago for $1400. I paid $1350 for it 2 years ago so I thought it was a good sell for me. Now that I have a Perazzi MX8 the Weatherby was just sitting in the safe.

Honest dealers will pay 50-60% of bluebook. if they feel there is a market for what your selling.....look to be offered 600.00-650.00 for your gun.

The gun i sold to Cabelas had a 100% bluebook of $2000 and they gave me $1400. That is 30% less than what they are selling it for. Call and ask them, they will tell you that they work on a 30% profit margin on used guns.

That is a good deal...I will remember that when I go to The Reno show next month. Do you know if they always go with the 100% bluebook if its been fired and in great shape?

Well, if there's a $650.00 offer made for the 340 all I can say is the final $900.00 or so for the TRG is going on plastic.

So far as what shops offer, as I said I don't sell very often so I'm a bit out of the loop. But since most stores take 20% to 25% on consignment, that they take 30% on a straight buy seems appropriate. If a gun store resold my 340 for about $1,200.00 I wouldn't feel screwed if they paid me about $900.00. Will see what happens, in the end it may be "pick a card, any card" to make the deal. No reason to not have a 340 WM and a 338 Lapua.

Try listing it here on the "Private Sales".......There are a couple of other site I have used also. I will send you the sites via PM as I don't think its proper to mention them here

City Arms in Pacifica will buy. Think they prefer consignment, though. I think they charge $25 + 10% of the selling price; best to call and confirm.

If a shop buys used, they have to sit on it for 30 days before turning it. Consignment goes straight to the display and doesn't tie up the shop's funds.

I almost never sell or trade guns to a FFL, you will almost surelybe raped if you allow yourself to. You can also get financially raped in a consignment, I know a shop that takes 40%!!! Private sales can net the most but I almost never do them here, too many tire kickers and people backing out of deals.

I'd rather let the gun sell itself in a dealers consignment case and give up the 20% or so generally and let the FFL deal with all the freaks and weirdos who sometimes go gun shopping. Worth the 20% also to not have to do a PPT at Turners or have to deal with FFLs who like to charge illegal amouts for a true PPT(Pawnmart Norwalk) or pout and whine about doing them even though you drop $1000's in their shop(Turners)
