I went to turners today and handled a bennelli m4 tactical, I gave it back right away. I was drulling on it.lol. Thats a nice gun but not with a nice price:eek: what Im looking for in a semi auto is ,somthing not over 4ft long , that'll hold more than 5 rounds,That wont have problems cycling 2 3/4 cheap walmart federals,
looks simular to the m4, and under $800 including dros paper work fee.;)
What do you recommend I should consider buying? This is for general purpose/fun gun.No competition or hunting I dont think anytime soon so 18.5"
barrels aren't a concern.

Look for an old Remington 11-48. There was one in the for sale section asking $220.

Used 1100's are all over the place. Otoh, they don't look similar to an M4 carbine.

Read all about "mounting the shotgun", "cheek weld", "pointing v. aiming", and maybe "stock drop" before you think about a carbine stock, let alone a pistol grip.;)

The H&R Excell Auto 5 is an excellent shotgun. They run around $350. The new style with the rounded receivers have more and better features. They are very reliable. I have two of them that I had the bbl shortened. The Verona SX 405 bbl will fit them and CDNN has the 24" & 26" bbls onsale for $50.

Here are my Excell Auto 5 shotguns

The Excell will cycle 2.75" & 3" shells very reliably. It has two gas pistons in one. It has a standard end for all loads, heavy and light, and you can flip it over for magnum loads.

I don't know what Turners has but I am sure he can order you one.

My Cz 712 (huglu) cycles 1 oz birdshot loads fine as well as 3" magnum and other highbrass buckshot.

There are a lot of good low cost semi auto Turkish shotguns now being imported into the US. Huglu, Legacy Escort, H&R Excell A5, Stoeger 2000, Charles Daly all are good choices. The Russian semi auto that Remington is importing are heavy but well made and reliable.

The Stoeger 2000 has stout recoil with it's Benelli - Inertia Driven System but a well made.

Here is a thread post with a Legacy Escort that is a Demo gun for King Armory and they have put 12,000 rounds through it without a hitch. It has a King Armory muzzle brake on it.

You should look at the beretta's:
1201FP and ES 100

both should be less than $600. Semi auto... the ES 100 uses the same gas system as the benelli, but less cost.

My buddy just sold his Benelli M1 because it wouldn't cycle low base loads at all.

The Mossberg 930 seem to work. I never thought I'd recommend a Mossberg.

Hey Hk996

The ES100 is a two piston design? Like the M4?

I don't know about the ES100 but I do know The 1201 you can't put on a mag extension. It is something you might want to know before you buy.

How many times do I have to reccomend the Remmington 11 before people will buy them...

Its A JMB design, which means NO FTF/FTE EVER if you use it correctly

Many don't like the looks of the Remington 11 & Browning A5. They have a blocky receiver. There is a reason why they are no longer produced.

Was that a joke?

He wants one that looks like the Benelli M4 shotgun, which is the same as the Benelli M1014 shotgun.

I don't think they make the ES100 anymore, but you see them on gunbroker or gunsamerica. I'm going to use it as a trap gun, so I don't need more than 4 rounds. But you are right, you can't put a extension on it that I know of...

Mossberg has both 930 and 935 semi auto shotgun models.

930 has a 3" chamber.

935 has a 3.5" and will only cycle 3" & 3.5" shells reliably.

Both well made and a bargain.

So for the Mossberg 930, if you buy it off the shelf is it a 8+1 or does it have to be modified?

+1 ...Remington 1100 to the max! Those things are designed for light loads so they have no problems out of the box. Just open it, drop in some #8s, and rock out!

The 930 18.5" bbl shotguns have 7+1 capacity. You can put a extended mag for 8+1 capacity.

Some 3 gunners are having a 930 24" bbl cut to 21" and put a +4 tube ext for 8+1 capacity. That way it doesn't extend past the bbl.
