Who's who? No name tags? I think that should be policy from now on..all Calgunners who congregate must wear their message board name on a tag.
All in favor, say "aye!"

I'm in the green polo with SD cap on. Name tags are a good idea with the amount of people that showed. Great job again Chris and thanks!

I am giving my vote for Los Angeles as the next location for a meet. I live in OC so I am biased towards something closer to home.

As far as expensive guns, don't know what you mean by that:confused: I know I was carrying my $1300 Spring Field Armory Operator:D And I did see another couple of nice 1911's.

It says if carried on the hip it is not a problem, but as long as it is exposed and unloaded in other locations (back, chest, thigh, ankle, forehead, etc) it shouldn't be a problem.
Seriously, if this talk keeps up, I will order the Chesty Puller rig from Simply Rugged and wear my Tracker on my chest, my Makarov on the shoulder part and the Single Six on my hip, just to prove the point.
Don't make me do it... ;)

You guys, come again? you openly carry loaded? Do you keep loaded mags on the belt? The question is if you're in situation to use your handgun? Thanks.

Very nice, now we need to do a Nor-Cal lunch.
Had one in April, in Sacramento, though not nearly as populated. There was also one in Turlock on the 19th. There are certainly more to come. Best to keep an eye on OpenCarry.org in addition to Calguns.

I can't speak for the rest but I am sure some guys/girls did take fully loaded magazines with them, I know I did. There were no loaded magazines in the guns.
Excellent job guys (and girls). So how many showed up?

It is refered to as Unloaded Open Carry, or UOC. The gun either has no magazine in the mag well, or has an empty magazine in the mag well.
Full magazines can be carried openly in mag holders. This allows the person who carries to quickly load the gun and rack a round into the chamber in a very short time, with some practice 1-2 seconds.
It is my belief that in 95% of the situations where you would need a handgun, the fact that you have one on your hip would defuse the situation automatically. In the majority of other 5%, you would be able to get the gun into battery quickly enough to defend yourself in as little time as it would take a Concealed Carry person to access their weapon.

Saigon1965, what are the chances of you hosting one at "Stephanies Cafe" in Pleasanton? This will give Bay Area folks a chance to UOC! just an idea bro!

Bill, I am game if you would take the lead - There's some consensus within our community that we should hold off - See some of the threads being discussed.
I feel that as a group thing, it'll be treated differently than an individual OC. Let me know how you feel.

My opinion is that the majority of those 5% of situations are situations where you aren't the target, but need to intervene (i.e. someone's being stabbed/beaten to death, or Virginia Tech is going on, etc).
In those cases, you can duck off to somewhere you aren't going to get shot at while you prep your weapon. Your response time will STILL beat 911. :)

Excellent point. More folks should carry for no other reason than your idea. The world would certainly be safer, especially in this state.

I can't take credit for it... Israel had the idea first. :)
I see unloaded open carry as being fairly un-useful to the active defense of the individual doing it. As others have stated, 95% (I would say probably more like upwards 99%) of the time, an OC'ed weapon will suffice for defense in a passive capacity.

I was in a cruddy area today, and I thought about open carry. My first strange thought was that if someone knew it was unloaded, I might get jacked for my gun, and not be able to do anything about it.
