View Full Version : Got a funny (strange, not ha ha) Letter in the Mail Recently?

I'm not sure what the right forum for this but it seems to fit best here.

I received a letter in the mail today. No return address. In a envelop like you'd send a bill payment back in. Hand written address. A sticker of a basket of flowers where the return address goes that says "Wishing you Happiness". Regular stamp, canceled in Sacramento.

The letter is out of printer.

It says [spelling errors are mine, my commentary in brackets]:

"Dear [my last name]" that name is scribbled out with the same pen used for addressing and my first name is put in.

"A friend has mentioned your problems with ED to me and I wans you to know that you are in our thoughts and prayers and to remind you to put your trust in God. " [no ED, not a member of a church, can remember even joking about ED]

"On the positive side, I need not remind you that there are remarkable medical advances being made in the treatment of ED almost daily. I am also pleased to hear that you are taking some positive emotional steps with your interest in guns and shooting. After all, it is well known that there is nothing like the fell of a warm gun in the hand to make an impotent pup feel like a real man.

Affectionately,

[scribbled name]

Pastor A. Spelling
New Faith Christian Church"

Clearly it looks like some anti-found my name and address some where and is having a little fun.

Anybody else seen or heard about anything like this?

I googled the church and pastor info and didnt get any hits in the sacramento area.

This is interesting. I hope anybody else who gets one posts so we can figure out what address list they've picked up on.

Forgive my humor, but anti gunners cannot get ED because they don't have a D....

LOL... Well that was very Christianly of the pastor to send that kind note. I'd send a thank you note back letting him know he could shove his note and prayers right up his ***.

Could be a practical joke from someone you know. Have you checked into this pastor and his church?
I wouldn't worry about it, but I'd be curious as to how this joker made the connection to you and firearms.
Keep us posted

eu...tin foil hat time.

get your self into the copper coil chamber fast as they are reading your mind.:chris:

but really if you can find out who sent it get a legal paper trail going..and fast. get a restrainig order agents them.

and maybe sue them and were they got your info from. some one got a look into papers that they should not be looking into, and making not legal use of said. that is a crime in ca.

looks like you have a friend that pranked you.

Wulf

I dont really have any friends that would pull this kind of prank. Strikes me more as some sort of hapless anti that was proud of themselves for figuring out who owns a gun.

Proposed response:

"Dear Pastor Spelling,

I promise to keep my boogerhook out of the trigger guard, if you keep yours out of the altarboy.

Regards, Wulf"

I would firmly attach the :TFH: it is obvious they are on to you... I can also see the underlying, veiled reference to you owning a gun

Someone is jerking your chain, and they are probably reading this laughing their *** off at your expense. Something along the lines of, “I can’t believe he really posted this on Calguns!!!)

You know, I used to get letters just like that on all kinds of products. I never knew where they came from, sometimes they would have ads from papers in them. I just threw them away.

I get dozens of junk emails every day on this topic get past the filters (no, I have no interest and no need). I also get several junk snail mail letters most days trying to sell me something I don't need or want. This just sounds like a combination to me.

Tear it up and ignore it.

Its junk mail.

No, it's not normal junk mail. I see it as a personal attack. They are equating his gun ownership to a treatment/compensation for Erectile Dysfunction.

Report it, local PD won't do anything, but you establish a paper trail early, and that is 99% of the battle here.

I gotta send that to a few close friends.

Definitely directed right at you. If not a friendly prank from someone you know, a subtly threat message from someone - like you said maybe someone trying to let you know they know you shoot and can menace you with this. Stupid as that is in reality. Neighbor?

At this point I'm guessing that somebody picked up name up off a USPSA score sheet posted online or something like that. Googled names on the list till they found a match (I've got a reasonably unique name so if you'd get good hits with an addresses without much effort) and then decided to send letters to people who they assume are clinging bitterly and futilely to god, guns, and phallus.

Keep the letter(s), make a police report, get a restraining order, and use it as part of your good cause statement for a CCW.

Let's really be a ball buster on this one.

Follow me on this one. They send you a letter dealing with a medical condition you have. The question is where or whom did they get that information from.

A court order telling them that they have to disclose the information can be done if needed.

What we have here is a potential violation of the HPAA law, patient privacy rights.

You can file both criminal and civil actions for unauthorized disclosure of personal health information.

Most medical institutions treat protecting patient health information very seriously.

You can have alot of fun with this.

You get it checked for chemicals or anything? If it is some crazy anti-gun nut you might want to check it. I wouldn't put anything past those overly emotional psychos.
