A recent thread mentioned that AK's don't have a bolt open feature after the last round being fired. But I heard that it can be done with some work.

What is that part?? And where can I buy it???
Is it a lot of work to install???

Thanks.

I heard there are some LRBHO magazine followers out there, but I heard they're not much good.

Some Chinese followers (steel) have an abrupt trailing edge that will catch the bolt. Alternatively, you can modify the safety/selector with a notch to hold the bolt open. You pull the charging handle back and hold it, then flip up the selector, while slowly letting the bolt come forward until it catches in the indent. You can see one here (http://www.dinzagarms.com/saiga_762x39/sslbho.html)

You could find a Saiga BHO and spring, notch the receiver and install it.

yugo mags are bho, the only thing is that when mag is removed the bolt closes.

You can just buy that outright: http://www.blackjackbuffers.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=66&products_id=202

I highly recommend that, by the way. Works very well. If you know what you're doing, a last-round hold-open won't really speed an AK reload anyway...

Or you could just spend 5 minutes with a grinder, wire wheel and some duracoat/krylon/whatever. ;) I just didn't have a picture of mine handy, and it's in Torrance with some of my other parts.

It definitely makes demonstrating a clear weapon easier.

On one of my Romie G builds I cut a notch in my safety similar to the one sold by Black Jack. I got my Romanian 10rd mags and removed the follower and ground the two dimples either side under the feed lips, until they were flat. I replaced the steel follower with a Tapco plastic follower ($2.49).

By grinding off the dimples, it allows the follower to sit higher in the mag, therefore letting the flat back on the follower hold back the bolt on the last round. Before you remove the magazine you would the push the safety lever in the "On" position and hook the bolt's handle into the notch. Now remove the magazine and reload. Push down the safety and the bolt will free itself and chamber a fresh round.
