To avoid NRA suit, aldermen vote to amend gun ban (http://media.www.dailynorthwestern.com/media/storage/paper853/news/2008/07/17/City/To.Avoid.Nra.Suit.Aldermen.Vote.To.Amend.Gun.Ban-3391932.shtml)

The aldermen voted unanimously to amend the ban in hopes of keeping parts of the law, while removing those most vulnerable to challenge in light of the recent Heller decision.

"No one was particularly happy or anxious to do anything that would change the ordinance," Ald. Edmund Moran (6th) said. "But we're being confronted with this lawsuit and rather than engaging in a protracted fight and spending a lot of money, it would be a better course of action to revise our ordinance in a way that it would make it more legally sustainable."
Sounds like the the lawsuit did its job. I guess the question is to see what the law looks like, since they were making the decision in a closed-door session.

The law will have to be changed to avoid a suit - a "nonenforcement statement" won't cut it.

But at least they're moving proactively.

It's a proptiious time for this - with cities & counties in budget crises we have some luxury.

I'm thinking we should have a little fun with Vallejo & Solano County :) ...

As a former, long term Solano County resident (Fairfield) what are they doing that is not completely up and up?

Isn't Second Amendment Foundation with Alen Gura, not NRA (which is heading the SF suits) , doing the Illinois suits? Although I guess it can all be called a "coalition" effort from coast to coast.

Maybe I'm missing something - what's happened there? The gun show stopped @ Fairgrounds?
