So if I have the Bushmaster xm-15, I'm screwed in Cali? Is there anyway to make this one legal? I read about making the magazine permannet and using a tool to remove it, will this make mine legit? I'm currently living in Texas and I will be moving back to Cali next month, and do not want to get into some legal problems. I would love to keep my AR, is there anything I can do? Thanks for all the help in advance.

The XM-15 is on the list of "banned" assault weapons. You are a Very Very Bad Man and you should feel real bad, you are lucky that our Governator is even letting you back in our glorious socialistic republik of Kalifornia ;)

While the XM-15 lower receiver is banned, all the other parts are not. What I'd do is sell the Bushmaster lower and get the same thing in a Stag Arms lower. Throw your magazine lock of choice on it and buy some 10 round magazines. You can either sell your hi-caps out of state or disassemble them into parts before you bring them into the state.

Beat me to it. See above

1st welcome to the forum.

No the Bushmaster xm-15 is a listed (by name) lower on the restricted list. Therefore there's no way to register it unless you are in the Military, or LE. There's no way to modify it to make it legal.

You'll either need to do the following:
1. Leave the reciever in Texas, or sell it. DO NOT BRING IT IN.
2. Buy a lower NOT on the list, and rebuild the rifle so it is configured correctly. Monstermag grip, bullet button, prince 50, etc.

The easiest and cheapest method for you will be to buy a new lower reciever ($110 or so), strip the old reciever, and build the rifle back up so that its in compliance with CA law. There's CA ID flowsheet listed at the top of the page.

I know its silly to have to swap out the piece of aluminum, but that's the way it is here in the Golden State.

What do you mean by "in the military"? Just any service member or someone in something like special ops? I'm an active duty Marine.

You would be elidgible for registration of an assult weapon in California. I did a quick search here and couldn't find anything quick, but it appears the forms to register are not available online and you have to request them. (Surprise Suprise)

This is an older thread but perhaps shonc99 would be able to help you out.

Good looking out Domokun, just spoke with him over the phone and gave him the contact info for CA DOJ BoF so that he can request the package for his Military Assault Weapons Permit.:)

Very nice. Good luck all torque. I suggest getting this all out of the way before you get the California or ASAP.
