Looks like there's another competitor to the factory built 338 Lapua precision rifle arenas.

Just saw that CZ finally released a long action precision rifle. Went to a few sites and saw that chamberings offered include the typical long range precision calibers 338 Lapua, 300 Win Mag as well as 300 RUM. I really like Mauser actions and considering the CZ is built on a masuer action.. It's really making me want to use the money I had set aside for the Sako and just get the CZ.

In case you haven't seen the rifle
http://www.cz-usa.com/product_detail.php?id=84

The price I saw was about $2600-$2900. Not too bad considering it already comes with the muzzle brake whereas for the Sako its another $200 for the brake.

Let me know what you guys think of the CZ versus the TRG.

Have you looked into getting a custom rifle for the same price? Can have one built by GAP (GA precision), PAI (Patriot Arms Inc.) too. Plus it will be built to your specs and shoot the 300gr SMKS.

For 3k, i would go for a custom rifle. Only high end factory rifle I would consider would be an AI.

I have to agree with the others. For that money buy an AI or build one.

Why even buy a 338 unless shooting 300gr Match kings? I shoot 180gr VLDS with almost a 7bc at 2850 (loaded lightly) and 3000 threw my new one when its done. I opted for a longer barrel to do this. Why pay 2.5-3x more to shoot the 338 and get results that are identical?

I was looking into a .338 lapua as one of my buddies has the TRG-42, and the other friend has the TRG-S (sporter style one). Both highly recommended the sako and I was saving for one because I trust their opinions, would like to try either buddie's rigs but lately it's been hard to convince them to go out shooting since both of them are occupied with either their career or child. I do regret missing out on the group buy that Randy (R&D) had on the Stiller Actions back in late 07 as at the time I was planning to pick up the TAC 338 action for a future build but I ended up getting a Benelli M4 at a nice price and ended up getting the Benelli instead of the Stiller action.

Currently have 2 700s and a 110FP right now and that's why I was looking to change things up.

700P 300 Win Mag with the AICS 1.5, (Probably going to send this one to have GA rebarrel with a MTU contour barrel to replace the stock varmint contour barrel)
700 SPS Varmint 223 Rem for cheap plink days at angeles.
Savage 110FP 300 Win Mag(My McMillan A-3 that I ordered in Oct 07 finally came in on my birthday in April !!!!)

As for the loading of the 338, I haven't been actively checking the other precision forums regarding load data for the lapua. I did not know the 300 gr Match Kings were the projectile of choice. My buddies got their TRGs at least 3-4 years ago and they were loading the 250 gr match kings, I was going by their data.

Haven't been in the forum in a while so trying to play catch a bit, by the way it's nice to see that alot of the first guys actively involved with the Precision rifle forum are still around. I haven't been on to Calguns for at least six months, but I recall when the Precision rifle forum was started the regulars in this forum were guys such as PistolPete75, Timberwolf, rksimple.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Like Adam said, the 300 smk is the choice for 338LM. If you're not going to shoot that one, might as well go with the 7wsm or the like and get similar performance.

Do I not have a memorable enough name?!

The powder of choice for 338 Lapua is Re-25. Bullet of course is the 300 SMK. Costs about $1 per trigger squeeze which is based on 10 loads per piece of brass :(

For the price you're willing to pay.. I'd get a custom. 1K for the Action.. 1K for the Stock.. .4K for the Barrel.. .6K for the Gunsmith and you're at the same 3K mark except everything is to your spec!

Oddly enough, you are right.
My senior year english literature teacher had it out for me and gave me a D.
My high school would not let me walk in the graduation procession.
I was on the honor role up through that point.

The funny thing is that public school system would not let me enroll because I had too many credits for them.
I had to take an adult school class, independent reading.
I wrote 6 book reports on 6 books I had already read and got the english credits within the week before the graduation ceremony.
My highschool rejected this of course as the english lit teacher was politically connected within the faculty.
So they mailed me my diploma...
