Yah bro...you should see the megaphone we use on the firing line. It takes 10 D cells to run and its freaking LOUD.

We can run up to 50 shooters on this range and type of COF with no problems. Our steel match is limited to 30 guys if I have 2 ROs.

We tied our record with 42 with a bunch of regulars gone. Hopefully we will see 50 shooters sometime this year.

Must be nice - most of the time my shooters are broken in squads of five and we run a squad at a time - what would I do with a line big enough to run 50 . . . .

Some interesting stats for 2008 so far:

We have had 72 different shooters on the line.
And have had a total of 226 total competitors on the line so far.

This does not include the steel matches.

Twolf, you should just come up and shoot one of Vu's matches.....We practice most of the day saturday, and usually shoot and barbeque on sunday. It's a blast, you guys would have a ton of fun.

Damn.. that's a lot of shooters.

We run 2 relays for the Tactical Long Range match. One relay shoots while the other pulls and scores the targets, then they switch off when the first relay is done shooting.

So at max we would have 25 shooters on the line. That's how many firing positions are on the line.

Vu and Shawn are the admins and organizers, but a few of us have stepped up to run the line and the pits on match day so they can relax a bit more and concentrate on shooting.

(those young guys can't shoot and run things at the same time like us older, more experienced guys can ;))

Good shooting pathfinder. You went to prove that it's the indian and not the bow. Experience over hi dollar rigs. I got a little over a year in rifle shooting. Hopefully after another year I can start to shoot more consistantly.

Someone should put on a class on reading mirage and wind. I would be interested in this. Wind kicked my *** last weekend.

Thanks.

For learning to read the wind, I would suggest buying Jim Owens book. It's really very good and many high power people have used the basic info to jump start the learning process.

"Reading the Wind and Coaching Techniques" - A simple system for judging the speed, direction and value of the wind. Learn to read the mirage, wind strategies, effects on the bullet and much more. The coaching techniques will help your own performance and that of others.

http://www.jarheadtop.com/books.html

Reading it lets you absorb at the speed best for you. Much easier than trying to cram it all in to a day at the range. After that it's a matter of getting out and shooting and putting the techniques to work and finding out what works for you.

I don't know about down south, but up here we have some of the best HP and Palma shooters in the country, and they are all helpful kind of people (some are women) if you just ask.

And Shawn and I appreciate the folks that have stepped up to help us. It does give us a lil down time each month to just pull the trigger. However I need to get back on the line so I don't get rusty. + I get bored in the pits.

Pete,

Don't let Rob fool you man. His old rifles are not your standard old beaters. The rig he shot this past weekend drive tacks It is easily a 1/2MOA rifle that shoots a 139scenar @ 2900FPS if not more. Then again Rob did kick my arse with his AR Service Rifle @ 600yards.

Negative Ryan. We'll make room, even if I have to give up my spot on the line man. Just come on up for the Saturday Practice and Sundays match.

If we have some time Saturday I will try to get you boys on the steel range.

Thanks Vu. Will there be time on Saturday, be it before or after you guys do the run through for the big match, to get dope on the 1k range? I can leave friday night and be there super early on Saturday or wait until the afternoon. Inside 600 its not going to matter much for me, but I need some solid dope on your range at 800-1000. If I come up before then to shoot with my freind up there, I'll let you know.

Sounds good. If we can get some practice in on that saturday it would be perfect. We could just find somewhere to crash for the night.

Ryan,

We may or may not do a dry run in August. I have really good ROs running that portion of the match and it depends on his comfort level. For me...I am OCD so I want a dry run.

If we do a dry run it will take till about 1130am. After that you have from 12 to 5pm to shoot on the 1K.

You can link up with other guys from up north and try to get some time on the steel range that Saturday in the AM....

Awesome! That makes me feel a lot better. Should I post over on NCPPRC to see if some guys want to hit the steel range in the AM? Is it OK to camp out Saturday night? If not, wheres the best place to stay?

Really looking forward to it. Thanks Vu.

post something under practice sessions on our forum throw something up there about that weekend and see what guys can be on the range with you. Most of them are members and can bring a guest.

Just introduce yourself so the guys know you are not some pinkie from Davis trying to be sneaky LOL.

Sounds good. We could either leave super early on Saturday or Friday night after everyone's off work. I'm good with either. I'll see if I can call up some old friends up there for a place to stay. If all else fails, Red Roof sounds good. I got dibs on one of the beds. You and Adam can spoon on the other.:D

Pete-you want in? On the trip that is. Not the spooning...

spooning sounds fun, but i rather shoot. if work picks up the way it's supposed to, and if i keep the wife happy i would love to take the trek with y'all. count me in for now. by then, i'll be out of 168s so i'll be shooting my scenars. it'll be perfect timing to shoot 1k.

I thought it was because of the RiverDance shoes, our comfort mats for the ground, the geriatric sunglasses and drinking my Starbucks coffee while shooting with peewee 168gr bullets and a muzzle break. :D

Spaniard saw some of the locals bringing some ropes after the match results and he pushed me into his car and took off!

We barely escaped!!!!!!!!!!!
