22LR Tactical / Precision Rifle Match
August 9, 2008.

A Place to Shoot in Saugus, CA will be having their next 22LR Tactical / Precision Rifle Match on Saturday, August 9, 2008. This will be a monthly match at A Place to Shoot and will be held on the 2nd Sat of the month. Registration will begin at 0700 and the first stage will begin at 0730. The match should run until approximately 1300.

This match is for 22LR only and is open to bolt action and well as semi auto rifles. Rifles should be equipped with optics (some targets are as small as 1/2) and capable of shooting 1 or less at 50 yards. Targets will range in size from 1/2 to 6 or more and will be a combination of paper, reactive and steel. Ranges will vary from 25 yards to 200 yards. As with our initial match, all competitors will be given an opportunity to sight in their weapons from 25 yards through 100 yards before the actual match begins. Shooters should plan on a minimum of 100 rounds.

The fee for the match will be $25.00 for early registration, $30.00 for match day walk-ons. Plaques will for awarded to the top three finishers. This is limited to 20 competitors so pre-registration is suggested. As a note with the publicity generated by the 6mmbr article, I would suggest notifying me of your interest sooner rather than later as we already have several signed up for this match. If you are interested in registering or have any questions either PM me through this forum or email me directly at billerwin@msn.com.

Not surprising I've had a lot of response regarding this match. At present I have six spots remaining so if you're interested and not already contacted me do so promptly.

As a note we are presently set at a cap of 20 shooters, however, if the interest is strong enough I may up the cap to a total 30 max to accomodate all interested. That said though don't delay in getting in as the operative word for now is "may".

Hardy har har...

I have the lock and the lock even has a nice nikon mil-dot buckmasters scope on it.
I just don't think it's accurate enough with the standard barrel and stock.
I was rolling around empty 12ga shotshells at 85yds with it thursday, but only about a 20% hit ratio.

I haven't been able to find Wolf or SK locally. Ordered some SK from Championshooters and it is backordered atleast to the end of the month. Might have to just get the $10 a box stuff eley/lapua(20 cents per round for .22LR:eek:)

eley is too expensive for $10/ box.

midway has sk standard plus in stock for $4.49/box at dealer's pricing.

OK I presently have 20 shooters on the list for the 22LR match on 0809 with more interested. As I had stated before if this occurred I would consider upping the max to 30 which I decided to do.

At present I have approx 8 slots left - once those are spoken for we will be max'd.

Also my wife decided y'all need to be fed after the match so we will be provideing grub for all after the match - no fee for the grub. Looks like the table fare will probably be BBQ chicken ribs etc.

So come prepared to shoot and eat!

Worked at the range 'til 7 this evening getting ready = 10 stages with 1 bouns stage if we have time. I believe y'all will enjoy it - a fine misture of precision and tactical and I believe I've got some suprises for y'all.

The Mrs went out and got the grub for tomorrow - BBQ chicken and ribs I believe, with potatoe salad (home made and to die for believe me ask Dennis), beans, mac and cheese and fruit. She'll be busy in the morning cooking and them will be at the range betweeen noon and 1sh so make sure and plan on staying for the food (its considered an insult in both the native american and hispanic culter not to eat when provided and my wife is 3/4 one and 1/4 the other).

See y'all in the morning

Awesome match and congratulations to the winners!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, it was a bit weird with the problems we had with the savage yesterday. I think I found the reason and it probably comes from the magazines.

Sorry I had to leave early, I would have love to stay for the BBQ!!!!!!!

Well done, Timberwolf - some of the stages were quite interesting, like driving a nail with the 22. I actually had no idea we could even do it. I'm thinking of becoming a long distance carpenter now!

I learned that the green is not flat enough to expect the ball to stay left when you hit it on the right side.
One shot, 30yd drive to the left, then the ball rolls 15yds to the right into the rough. :(

Had alot of fun. Entertaining match. Congrats to the winners. Very interesting and surprising stages. Yeah, carpentry is harder than it looks :p. The Golf stage was alot of fun, although the terrain on that range makes it "challenging". And those damn clays were trickier than I thought untill I found the sweet spot to hit 'em at. Wish I coulda stayed for the BBQ(work :()

Yeah seems like there were a lot of people having technical issues, zero problems, mag problems, feeding problems. The dust was insane, and its in everything deeply. I have a long cleaning session ahead of me, hehehe.

LOL, yeah, that was me.:(. I still had a great time though! The whole thing was alot of fun and very.... educational. Bill did a great job of thinking up all sorts of semi-sadistic ways to challenge our skills and rigs. ND said it best - More than anything else, I came away from it learning lots of new things to practice and think about. I wouldn't have thought alot of that stuff was even possible - or at least not realistic. Turns out you really can drive nails with a .22 - although having a French accent seems to help;).

I couldn't do much without a zero up on the first range, but happily there was that break between the golf balls and the stages on the member range. I was able to sit down and get a zero in and then had alot more fun. The upside was that it put me so far down in points that I was able to just have a little fun with some parts and do things like learn that those 60gr Aguila SSS rounds are NOT a solution to the clay breaking problem:rolleyes::D.

Those Savages did seem to be having mag problems, but even the 10/22 guys (myself among them) had a few jams with all that dust. They just seemed to clear alot easier. The most reliable gun? The AR:eek:. Who woulda thunk it? (aside from JRock, that is ;))

Maybe next time, we could make it possible to use some of that pre-game dead time to sight in/zero/etc. With the fires up here I hadn't been able to get to the range since June and had to change over to a 40gr BDC turret and zero for the Aguila Match ammo on the fly. Just a thought anyway, I know it's already more than enough work providing all that you already did.

Thanks again to Timberwolf for a great and really well thought-out and well organized match. Really top notch stuff. And lastly thanks again to his wife for that amazing BBQ! What a great way to top off a seriously fun morning!

-Pete

Yep and my Savage was 100% too, it just gets smoother and smoother every time I shoot it. I know what the magazine issues are and I took steps to fix it. Was that you with the .22 AR? Those Velocitors went right through the clays making small holes but didn't "destroy" them:eek:. But they worked real well for the golf balls. All that velocity pushed them forward with no problem. Was cool to see an AR in the mix.

For the guys shooting the thumbhole stock rifles: how hard was it to shoot left handed on the barricade stage? Those thumbholes looked like they were designed for right handed shooting and not very ambidextrous.

I used my Savage BTVS in testing the baracade stage. Shooting it left handed is a little awkward as the stock is definately a right handed stock, but it is doable. Just remeber to take off your stock pack :p

Its definitely doable. The stock didn't help but it, really wasn't as big a deal as you'd think... the only hard part for me was shooting with my non-dominant eye.

I need to practice that for sure.

No big deal.
I held it "thumb high" like a monsterman grip.

LOL... Just make sure you get all of our names right on the trophy.

And cypriss...the way you talk you probably wont even make it up to NorCal next year for the north vs south.

Better start gathering your 12 souls now. :D

In all fairness norcal guys are good shooters as well as the socal shooters. At any given day, I think it could swing either way.
