Just received my Spikes Tactical ST-22. Currently it is about 95% dressed, still waiting for a few final parts to complete my build i.e. Magpul ergo pistol grip, Magpul enhanced trigger guard, Sightmark laiser sight, and Black Dog mag. I did a co-witness set-up with an EOTech 512 I had sitting on the shelf for over a year. Thought I better get my money worths out of it. I also did the detail work on the lower myself. Boy what a pain doing the spider, that took twice a long as the rest of it. I'm pleased with the results.

There are others with far more experience than me that would say that mounting your optic on the forearm is not a good idea. Since it is a .22, I'm imagining it shouldn't be a problem to maintain zero.

Regardless... enjoy your Spike's. I'm digging mine.

Black Majik / Richard: Thanks for the tip about the optics on the forearm. I hadn't heard of that before. I'll have to see if there are any issues since it's only a 22lr. Sure will remember your tip.

Credit goes to Grubbin on that tip. Though I do agree with him. :)

Check out this photo of a marine with his EOTech on the front handguard rail of his M4. It's several frames down on the link. Now that's really wierd... per the comments not a good spot for the EOTech. :79:

Here's a link to a recent thread about said image and some comments regarding the Eotech on the handguard...

I imagine that you don't need to worry so much about it since it's on .22 upper. If it works for you... cool.

My only problem is that my 55 year old eyes are shot, new bifocals aren't working and I really didn't shoot all that good this last weekend with this set up. Broke my Spikes in this last weekend at Manteca Sportsman range. Set up on the 50 yd range and started my break in. After 200 rounds for break in I set up a 7" vertical squirrel target and see what I could do. Well I could not get a clear picture of my target all day so I knew it would be interesting. Out of 9 shots (full clip) four where in the kill zone, 2 hits for sure and the other 3 where plain misses. I have decided until I get some good shooting glasses I'm going to stay with scopes. As soon as I got home I removed the carry handle and EOTech and put a 3x9x40mm Simmons scope on my Spikes. Very fustrating day with the Spikes ST22. Had better luck with my new Savage 93R17 in .17 HMR which has a BSA Contender scope on it. Second photo is a sample target for that rifle. Conditions where sligthly overcast with 10 mph wind gust.

Although I like the idea of a red dot sight, I know it's not how I shoot. I have great vision and prefer open sights or a variable magnified optic.

So you haven't tried the Spike's w/ the Simmons scope yet? What brand ammo were you running thru your Spike's?

I like the results with the Savage. Gotta get me a 17 one day.

Nope haven't had a chance yet with the scope. Maybe this weekend if I get time. Got a bachlor party to go to up in Pinecrest this Saturday. If I can steal some time on Sunday I'll go to the range and not do my honey do things.

Federal copper tops 36 grain from Wallymart

17HMRs are so cool, I have a 17M2 that shoots just as tight groups with very little noise and zero recoil.
