I was browsing some local shops yesterday and came across a 627 6 inch, unfluted cylinder for $550. Only noticed one minor scratch that I'm sure would polish out. Good deal?

If it's pre-lock, buy it. I would but can't right now. If you don't like it you can sell it to me later on :o)

How can I tell if it's prelock, I'm pretty sure I saw a 1986 production on it, but I could be wrong

1986=pre lock. I've seen some listed on GunsAmerica for over $600.00, so I think $550.00 is a good price especially since old Smiths are hard to find in Kali these days.

It is probably the 627-0 model of 1989

$800-$900

Where is it at, have been looking for one

IIRC only 5000 of the pre lock 627 were made.

A 627 with unfluted cylinder for $550 is a very good deal pre-lock or not!

Something like this? (Sorry for the bad pictures). If so, $550 is a steal!!

Good deal, they're $725 new.

Good price, if you're interested I'd snatch it up. It's the older forged steel without MIM parts and a lock, much more desireable to many people than the newer cast steel with MIM junk. Hang onto it for 6 months then sell it to JTROKS for $800. :)

Great Price. Kinda heavy with unfluted cylinder and full lug barrel, but it's a SWEET revolver. Go for it. c good

is this FUD or are you joking? When did S&W start casting their performance center guns?

I guess the one in the pictures above is not a Performance Center 627.

dammit! I was just in Turlock today. Woulda stopped by Manteca to look at this if I'd checked calguns first....sigh...

The 627 is a classic gun - $550 isn't a bad price.

Yup - that's an older pre-PC model. I've seen pictures of other non-PC 627's, I know I saw one that I think was a 627-4 in .357 that had a lock and was cast not forged frame. Never actually laid my own eyes on one, but seen pictures...

Well did you buy it already?

If not share the wealth.

S&W still forges their frames, only the internals are MIM (metal injection molded)

Nice gun. The checkering on the top strap is a joke though. They look like neatly laid out scratches really.

Smith still uses forged frames. They do use a cast sleeve over a steel insert for their barrels on some models.
