I have always wondered about concealing a gun (mainly a pistol but possibly a takedown rifle) actually in the field if i am hiking or backpacking. Is it legal? Im always worried that even with the pistol on my belt im going to put something on that covers it and then get busted for CCW. Or even trying to keep the gun dry.

read the laws about fishing and guns.
as long as you have the fishing license and gear and do fish it is legal to carry a hidden gun on your body,
not a lawyer and i did not sleep in a motel last night..
there are parts in the laws about going to and from and while doing a fishing, hunting, and some other trips that allow a hidden gun on you...but check out and read up on the laws, before trying it. it just might keep you out of jail.

partly depends on where you fish
state game refuges are a no no among others
Study the penal code to be fully conversant with handgun "loaded" laws and handgun "concealed" laws, and effect (if any) of exemptions for hunting and fishing.
No "concealed" limitation on long guns, but there are "loaded" limitations.
