Reminder: The cell phone ban while driving law went into effect today. Be careful especially with OLLs. Another reason to get pulled over that is easy to avoid.

There is no PC to search the vehicle if you're getting a cell phone ticket. Maybe if you volunteer.
Well, Maybe if you transport your guns on a rack in your back window...

They can ask to see your guns if they see a possible gun case.

Don't expose your rack to the officer.

Quick question about the gun rack in rear window. Why isn't that considered open carry? Is it not out in the open in that it is visible(even more visible carrying on your hip for an officer approaching a vehicle) .

Don't expose your rack to the officer.
Why not, that might distract the officer sufficiently to be able to divert his attention from the rear seat.:D
meh...i'll probably still drive while talking on the phone just because i despise when people wear those stupid little star-trek borg headsets....
what is it a 20 dollar fine or something? meh.

$78 for the first offense after all is said and done. $200 for the second offense. Fortunately it does not put a point on your record.
(Just got a new cell phone today and was reading the LAPD pamphlet they put out.)
EDIT: The most rediculous thing is it is not technically NOT illegal to DIAL your cell phone or TEXT MESSAGE! The two most common things about cell phone use that makes people take their eyes off the road and they are not illegal. They just don't want the SOB near your ear. The new cell phone law makes about as much sense as the firearm laws in California. NONE!
(Have you ever watched a douche bag with a Sidekick text someone while driving and hope Darwin takes them before they take someone else?)

holy jesus....
Ok, so i'll still talk on the phone, i'll just be quick to toss it when a cop comes around....:p

That is open carry and not a crime (school zone not discussed for simplicity sake). However in Ca, all leos have the power to detain and inspect firearms (in violation of the 4th A. IMO), when in a loaded prohibited zone, to insure that firearms are not loaded (citation-12031 (e)&(g) PC)

if your cell phone has a speaker feature that is legal.
just not legal to have a phone next to your ear while driving...and it is not legal to stop along the fwy for any reason.
can you say loophole big enougth to drive a truck through.
just another feel good law, that will put more money into the tax coffers of the state.

I was given a Garmin Nuvi 660 GPS for Father's day and it has Blue Tooth. If a call comes in, I just have to push a icon on it and I can talk. The person talking is loud and clear. When the call is over, I don't have to touch anything as it disconnects when they hang up.
The only problem I'm having is the mount keeps coming loose off the windshield, sending the whole unit crashing to the floor. I'm going to have to contact Garmin about it I guess.
The unit itself is great tho and I'm glad my family gave it to me as I didn't want to wear that stupid Blue tooth in the ear thingy.
Clean the suction cup and window with alcohol, it'll stay.

Probable cause is not required to search the interior compartment of a car, only reasonable suspicion. For some reason, your constitutional rights are greater in your trunk though, so they need probable cause to search that. Also, if you do actually get arrested, then it's pretty much all bets are off.

So, you just trading one VC violation for another. Attaching the GPS to the windshield is a VC violation. That is why Garmin includes that plastic coaster disc. It is intended that you attach that to the dash with double-sided tape, and then attach the mount to that.
NOTICE regarding windshield
mounting; special notice to drivers
in California and Minnesota: State law
prohibits drivers in California and Minnesota from using
suction mounts on their windshields while operating
motor vehicles. Check your state and local laws and
ordinances for similar restrictions. Other Garmin
dashboard or friction mounting options should be used.
Garmin does not take any responsibility for any fines,
penalties, or damages that may be incurred as a result of
disregarding this notice or as a result of any other state
or local law or ordinance relating to use of the unit. (See
California Vehicle Code Section 26708(a); Minnesota
Statutes 2005, Section 169.71.)

OT, but can someone explain to me how this works? According to the P.C. the "base fine" is only $20 for the first violation, and $50 for subsequent violations. The DMV states there is an additional "penalty assessment". Who determines the "penalty assessment" amount?
Attaching the GPS to the windshield is a VC violation.
Hopefully Senate Bill 1567 gets passed and changes that.

I saw a Sheriff's deputy talking on a cell phone while driving yesterday, so I guess it doesn't apply to LEO.:willy_nilly::confused::(

I'm guessing this part covers them?
This section does not apply to an emergency services professional using a wireless telephone while operating an authorized emergency vehicle, as defined in Section 165, in the course and scope of his or her duties.

That is why I use a Dash friction mount (http://www.amazon.com/Garmin-Portable-Dashboard-StreetPilot-Navigators/dp/B000LRMS66/ref=pd_bbs_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1215183122&sr=8-2)
