I picked up my new Smith & Wesson 3914 from Contra Costa Collectables yesterday and am very happy with my purchace. The gun has come normal wear on the blueing but no holster wear. The strange thing is the internals have zero wear. Whoever was the orignal owner never shot it or very little. The sight radius is narrow and it groups very nicely at 15 yards (about 4 inches). The trigger is very nice. The DA pull is even all the way through. The single action is about 5lbs with a reset that I think might be better than a Glock.

The only problem I ran into is it shoots to the left about 3 inches. I had 2 other people shoot it and it is not me. The problem is the rear sight will not budge. I loosened the screw 4 turns and even tried shooting liquid wrench but it will not move. Does anyone know of a cheap sight adjuster or have one I can borrow?

Interesting gun, sometimes the blue versions of certain 3rd gen S&W autos are actually quite rare as they were dropped for production of the stainless version early on. I saw a 6904 for $350 recently which I though was a good price. Im rarely see the blued counterparts of the stainless guns such as the 4505 or 5905 for sale. I've seen a few 3913's recently but no 3914's.

I'd like to see an excellent condition $350, 6904! The 3913s are great guns, single stack, right? That's like the equivalent of a Sig P225. I have a 5906 and it is an excellent handgun. I've only had one S&W that was quite a tack driver, it was my 469 model and idiot me, still kicking myself in the arse for selling it. My 5906 prinst about 4" at 25 yards which is more than adequate for defense. The best way to drift that rear sight is to shoot some Kroil penetrating oil let it soak overnight and then use a vise to hold the slide, carefull don't mar the finish. Then use a brass punch on the side of the dovetail area. A firm tap should get it moving. Use a fine line markier and mark the slide and the sight to let you know how much it has drifted.

Imbert & Smithers in San Carlos has a Smith & Wesson 5904 (blued 5906 with alloy frame) for $ 425.00 in real nice condition.
The price is about $ 200.00 below Blue Book.

It's cool to see some S&W 3rd Gen fans here. I own a 5904 and a 4506. Both have been accurate and very reliable!

Oh! How I want to have a PPC9, a 5" PC 5906 will do. Anyone have one here? Here's a pic that I hi-jacked from the S&W forums.

I'm not the biggest fan of them but I'll snap one up from time to time when they pop up at good prices. I got a 1006 last year with Millet sights, an Aker shoulder holster, and 3 mags for $450. I got a 457s for $259 also.

I had a 669 as one of my first pistols. I liked it, but didnt care for the double stack grip on such a compact pistol.

I then got the 1911 bug and sold it to finance my .45 habit.

Years later, I saw a used 3914 for $300 and change. I had to buy it. I'm glad I did.

Yeah, I'd rather shoot my HKs and Sigs, but there's something about the S&Ws that I like. You found some great deals for your guns.

I like the all steel man sized pistols in the 3rd gens though but they have a rep of having kind of crappy triggers. I want a 639 from the 2nd gen also. My mod 422 is kind of neat also.

I live in the area and really wish I could help. Sadly I do not have a sight adjuster... yet. Please please please tell us how your new toy handles later on! I have not heard of S&W's newer auto designs and am happy to learn more about them through you.

On a side note I will not do business with Contra Costa Collectibles anymore for their anti-bullet button stance and am now shopping at Diablo Gun Works behind Casper's on Contra Costa Blvd where they are very accommodating.
