Big 5 is advertising this Shotgun as a weekly special for $199.00. Anyone have info on this model? I know it ain't an 870, but it may be O.K. for under the bed SHTF gun. All comments welcome. Thanks :o)

Kinda wondering the same thing, man. Anyone ever even heard of this thing?

I went and handled one last night, and to me if felt very similar to an 870. I'm pretty sure it has a steel receiver, and seemed to be a pretty decent shotgun, although the action was a bit stiff (maybe it just wasn't lubed right).

I did notice that it's made in China, which doesn't sit right with me, but I still might buy one all the same :)

Got curious, so I did a little search. H&R is owned by Marlin. Remmington aquired Marlin Jan. 2008! 18.5" bbl available from factory. Here's the link.

We'll see. I still need to buy a few uppers and this would put me about $250 behind.

They go off ad on Sunday, but if they still have any I'm pretty sure you can ask them to give you the sale price.

It is made by Norinco and imported by Hawk Ind for (Cerberus Capital = Remington > Bushmaster > Marlin > H&R > NEF). All the same company. It is a copy of the 870 and all of the 870 accessories will fit it. Some may need A little modifying. It is the same shotgun as the Norinco 982 but has a different style receiver. It has a very heavy hardened high carbon steel receiver. It is built like a tank. The barrels from the PP will fit the 982, same shotgun.

These shotguns are very reliable and will last forever. I have owned one of the 982 shotguns for 5 years with thousands of rounds fired and never had any problem out of it. It is very smooth. It is the slickest pump gun I own. I have a Pardner Protector also that I am having a King Armory breacher muzzle break barrel attachment install on it. It has a 870 stock adapter, CAR adj stock, Hogue fore end, Vang speed safety. I will post pictures of it when I get the barrel back from King Armory.

Here is a Pardner Protector with one of my 7+1 mag tube ext on it. I make these tube extensions for these shotguns. All of the Remington tube ext are to long because the barrel locking lug on the PP is higher up and in a better location in my opinion.

Thanks for all the skinny! I think I;d better run on down to Big 5 tomorrow:o)
Two questions: How much for your custom mag extension and, have you ever tried the "mini" Aguila rounds?

The tube ext, extra power spring and high vis follower is $65 shipped. I have never tried the mini shells but I read that they will cycle in the PP. It will also depend on the operator; how well the action is cycled by the gunner.

If you try the mini shells and lets us know for sure.

I think I'll do a little bit a tacticizing, yea. I've got the last one on hold at Big 5. I guess the AR's will wait even longer.

That mag extension sounds great, GC. Let us know how much you can get them out for. EDIT: I'll be PMing you for one, I believe. Thanks.

The action on my 982 was slick out of the box but I had to do some smoothing on my PP action. It is very smooth now. All of the 982 and PP shotguns I have come across lately have needed some smoothing done to the actions to be butter smooth. It is easy to do because they are just like an 870.

Thanks much GC I'll be in touch when I'm ready for the mag extension and some advice. The first thing I'll want to do is cut the bbl down to 18.5" :), not gonna do it my self, I figure there is a member of the forum that can do it properly for me. Have a good one!

Jeff.

Anyone wants an extra 18.5" and or a scope base for their PP you can get them from H&R. The barrel runs about $70, I believe. The base is low cost also.

Chinese clone of the 870 with the H&R name on it. I'd much rather look for a deal on a used 870. I see 870's for around the same priceor lower used sometimes especially if they are not Wingmaster variations or have fixed choke barrels.

I would rather have a Norinco 982 over a new 870. The 982 is a better tactical shotgun in my opinion and offers much more as a tactical shotgun at a lower cost.

Interesting, I picked up my 870 at the local Big 5 yesterday and saw the H&R... they didn't have ther H&R on display when I bought the 870.

I'm not worried because the I know the 870 is tough as rocks and the H&R is (was) an unknown to me.

However I could have saved $140.

On the other hand best not to go cheap when it comes to home defense.

Ha...I was walking back to the truck from dinner and decided to run next door to look at the Pardner. I then ALMOST bought it. Then I ALMOST bought the Mossberg Persuader for the same price. Then I ALMOST bought the 590A for 349. Then I left because I just picked up my Rem. Model 48 in 16g and will pick up two new OLL's on Tuesday.

Here is a post by a Remington 870 owner who tried the Pardner Protector out for the first time.

DATX Wrote:

I'm an 870 guy. For about 30 years now. I have 6 870s at the moment. OK, that's my lead-in.

I went out to a private range today and ran in to a good buddy of mine who owns a gun shop. A big gun shop. (Which is the primary reason I have more guns than some of the world's militaries). Rolling Eyes

Anyway, said buddy had a Pardner Protector with him. I asked him about it. His response was to push 6 boxes of Rio #6s (yeah, the cheap stuff) at me and say, "Try to break it". "OK, I'm your man!" said I. I proceeded to crank out 150 rounds as fast as I could load, pump, and fire. Dang gun got so hot I had to be real careful not to touch metal! In fact my friend was pouring bottled water over it after the first box of shells! I mean, it was sizzling! Bottom line: No failures...of any kind. So OK, it was only 150 rounds, but I was pretty impressed with it.

I know it's a cheap (cancel that!..."inexpensive") shotgun, and I know it has the dreaded "Made in China" label. But it sure seems to be a tough little piece of machinery.

You are probably in a very small minority that believes this but to each his own. Maybe Remington should close production of the 870, in production since 1950, and have the Chinese make it under license for them:)

I know the one or two Chinese clone Ithca 37's I messed with were very poor. I do have a Chinese o/u 12ga that is serviceable though for the limited amout I have shot it.

I went and held the Pardner, and ended up purchasing. It was heavier than my 870's but seemed to be very solid. If 870 parts are really compatible with this thing then spending $200 is fine with me.

The Norinco 982 and the Pardner Protector are the same shotguns. The Protector has a different style & heavier receiver.

Here are pictures of my Norinco 982 with the following added. I have the same setup on my H&R Protector but I am having breacher attachment installed on the barrel. So it is getting some down time right now.

Arms Tech LLC 870 stock adapter
AR-Stoner CAR stock
CAA stock saddle
Tapco AR15 SAW grip
Hogue 870 fore end
Vang 870 oversize dome safety
Laserlyte Tri-Rail mount
SOG recoil pad
GUN CONNECTION +2 Tube Extension
Heat Shield came on the shotgun
DIY recoil reduction system: A roll of quarters sandwiched between two 3" long mag tube springs. It Works very well.

The gun is 5 years old and has been through hell so I refinished it with a very durable matte black non rust ceramic coating. The same finish I put on my custom mag tube extensions.

About $250 worth of add-ons.

This is the most comfortable adj stock setup I have found and it gives an excellent cheek weld. I tried a Mesa Tactical low tube stock adapter but didn't like it because it was not comfortable and it didn't give enough stock drop for the GRS.

I like the Tapco SAW grip because it has a Benelli style look and feel to it and it has enough storage space so you can fit 2 rounds up inside it.
