Israeli security guards react following a security alert upon French President Nicolas Sarkozy's departure at Ben Gurion airport near Tel Aviv. The departure ceremony was disrupted by a security scare. A shot rang out when a member of the Israeli guard of honour killed himself in what police said was a suicide.

Notice they started to close the plane door with people still trying to board.

OK, the obvious questions:

What kind of handguns, caliber, etc. and what is the significance of the yellow tape along the muzzle end of the slide?

Good questions Rivers, those are to distinguish that the people working that day are part of the presidential detail (I think)

Do they maintain high security by changing the colors of the tape each assignment? (I know, that sounds stupid but if you think about it, does make sense. Then it really sounds stupidly effective.)

The Israeli Yagav (Israeli Border Guards- paramilitary force) and Yaman (Police Special Forces- similar to FBI HRT) use yellow tape on their weapons as simple, yet effective IFF system.

While IDF units don't do this, Israeli Army helicopters all have a yellow "V" on them for a similar reason.

OH I see,
Usually in my experience the good guys have green gamer tags over their heads...The red ones are bad guys.

Are you sure those aren't French security? If so, the tape would have their name on it so that they can get the gun back if they drop it while running away.

Actually, do you notice how not one of them looks like they are ready and willing to use their weapons? It is probably just the timing of the photos, but it is almost like they have them out only for show.
