View Full Version : Invite your legislator to go shooting!

I had an odd idea sitting here at the computer this morning. I was writing my assembly person (who happens to be Republican) about fighting the ammunition law the Assembly is considering.
At the end of my plea to fight this idiocy, I said this:
“In the interests of your research into this bill, I invite you and your staff to come shooting with me at a permanent, fixed range.”
Then a great idea hit me: what if we ALL started doing this? What if we all started inviting our state assembly reps, our state senators, our congressmen, our senators - hell, every public official - to go shooting free of charge? Even if your rep is a raving moonbat, it may not be a waste of time! Someone may have beat me to the punch, but if so I haven’t heard about it.
I mean, what are the anti-gunners going to do about it? NOT invite their reps? Invite their reps NOT to go?
*I emailed this to a few other prominent gun bloggers. Perhaps something can come of this.

I don't think Leland Yee or Jackie Speier want to go shooting with me. :(

Doesn't seem like a bad concept, BUT (damn that word again) what are the chances of them actually going? The whole point is getting them there and experiencing the shooting sports. I think if we could get them there, they'd realize gun owners aren't just a bunch of rednecks (no offense to those that are ;)

I invited my state reps. They are among the most anti gun reps in this state, and that's saying a lot. They declined. They also declined my request for an in-person meeting to discuss AJR 46.
At least I tried. And I'll keep on trying. They do have open-house meet-and-greet events. Maybe I'll go to one.

I tried, I even extended an invitation just so he could meet some of his constituents.... NO RESPONSE...

I know this tactic has been used in the off road world. Several clubs have had a day where they take congressmen, or forest service personel 4 wheeling.

its a good idea and it is done in Sacramento
a current example of a formal event is put in by COHA and can be found here (http://www.outdoorheritage.org/event.php). " California Legislature Outdoor Sporting Caucus Trap Shoot
COHA partners once again with the California Legislature Outdoor Sporting Caucus on August 5th to host a shotgun shooting event that educates members of the legislature and their staff on the fun and safe handling of firearms..."
there are many other less formal or advertised events with different themes and/or educational opportunities for staff and legislators. these events have featured prominent firearms and issue area experts, law enforcement, legislators and staff.
these also go on in the districts.
of course I would not want to discourage any educated safe shooter from bonding with their elected representatives at any level, but in case you were wondering- our people in Sacramento do this.

I have actually put some thought to this:
Great California Shoot-Out
Sponsored By Calguns.net members
The Great California Shoot-Out is basically an Open House at the local range. The purpose is to educate the populace on firearms. Invitations will be extended to local news outlets, local politicians including Mayors, Law Enforcement, City Council members, Assemby & Senate members and the general public.
Location:
Angeles Shooting Range
Invitations:
Television
NBC - 4
ABC - 7
CBS - 2
KTLA - 5
KCAL - 9
KTTV – 11
KCOP – 13

Firearms available to shoot:
Revolvers

.22, .38, .357, .4LC
Double Action

If done correctly, we can then question legislation being introduced by legislators like DeLeon.
I would be more than happy to take a day off, provide ammo and firearms for demonstration by and to the invitees listed above, (local news outlets, local politicians including Mayors, Law Enforcement, City Council members and Assemby & Senate members.)
If successful it should be done all across the state.

I've invited Lois Capps to come to the range and see what guns HR1022 would ban in person; she declined.

Greg Aghazarian is already a shooter and 2nd supporter. I speak with him, and volunteer fairly often. It is common for him to attend, and support various FNRA dinners. He won a 9mm XD up in Solono this year.
And in actuality, he is looking for support from sportsmen for this years election. He's running for the 5th Senate district. If you think you can get people from your area together for a shoot, he'd be happy to come out for both a meet and greet (and some range time).
