Dangerous Anti-Gun Bills Moving Forward in California Senate!
Please Make Your Voice Heard Today!

Three anti-gun bills are making their way through the California Senate and it is imperative that you voice your opposition to them.

Assembly Bill 2062 was passed by the Senate Public Safety Committee on Tuesday, June 17. The bill now heads to the Senate Appropriations Committee for its consideration.

Sponsored by State Assembly Member Kevin De Leon (D-45), AB2062 would make it a crime to privately transfer more than 50 rounds of ammunition per month, even between family and friends, unless you are registered as a "handgun ammunition vendor" in the Department of Justice's database. Ammunition retailers would have to be licensed and store ammunition in such a manner that it would be inaccessible to purchasers. The bill would also require vendors to keep a record of the transaction including the ammunition buyer's name, driver's license, the quantity, caliber, type of ammunition purchased, and right thumbprint, which would be submitted to the Department of Justice. All ammunition sales in the state of California would be subject to a $3 per transaction tax. Lastly, mail order ammunition sales would be prohibited. Any violator of AB2062 would be subject to civil fines.

Assembly Bill 2235 has been assigned to the Senate Public Safety Committee and is scheduled to be heard next Tuesday, June 24.

This legislation would prohibit the sale of handguns other than "owner-authorized (or "smart") handguns"-- that is, handguns with a permanent, programmable biometric feature that renders the firearm useless unless activated by the authorized user. No proven, viable handgun of this type has ever been developed. Introduced by Assemblyman Mark DeSaulnier (D-11), AB2235 would require the Attorney General to report to the Governor and Legislature on the availability of owner-authorized handguns; once the Attorney General finds that these guns are available, only "owner-authorized" handguns could be approved for sale in California.

Also scheduled to be heard in the Senate Public Safety Committee on Tuesday is Assembly Bill 2948, introduced by State Assembly Member Mark Leno (D-13). Simply put, this dangerous bill would ban the sale of firearms and ammunition on the property or inside the buildings that comprise the Cow Palace.

Please contact the members of the Senate Appropriations Committee and Senate Public Safety Committee TODAY and urge them to oppose these threats to our Second Amendment freedoms. Contact information for both committees can be found below.

I called all on the above list this afternoon and voiced my opposition to the pending bills.

One number I called went to voice mail(I can't remember which), but the rest answered live and "noted" my opinion.

It took about 20 minutes to do the whole deal. I encourage everyone to give up 20 minutes of their day in support of our rights as citizens!

My $.02 Worth

I find it rather sad that most members on this Forum will go on and on about their OLL Build, and their recent purchase. If we don’t fight for what little gun rights we still have here in California we are doomed to loose them all.
Before I found this Forum I had posted on another Forum the needed help to try to stop CA’s Microstamping Law from being signed. There were more response over there, and many were from members out of this State. People need to remember what starts in CA often spreads. Remember Smog Check 2, MTBE additive, Same Sex Marriage, Gun Laws, Lead Ammo Ban, and now again CA wants their own Tail Pipe Emission Laws. As if the American Auto Manufactures can stand this. What about the Ammo Manufactures also. How many Pistol Manufactures will pull out of CA if the Smart Gun Law gets passed? We must fight this tooth and nail. If we loose this it will spread and we will never get it back!!

Sorry to Vent So

You've been here six months, what do YOU really know about what this group has done? Nothing. We ARE fighting, tooth and nail. So yes, these measures need to be defeated and soundly denounced by thousands of pissedoff gun owners. But slamming the people for inaction who are actually on the front lines doing something doesn't fly.

I dont believe he was "slamming" anyone. He was merely pointing out that the apparent interest in actually making calls, sending letters/faxes..etc..etc... is lower than one would expect from a forum dedicated to CA gun laws/activism.

I'll go a step further...I doubt more than 10% of the people here on Calguns actually make the calls, send the letters/faxes...etc...etc. People are real good at the quick reply, the vitriol, but unfortunately not so good with the follow through.

One other thing to keep in mind: find a few COGs. What does COG stand for? A gun-grabbing politician's worst nightmare... a Cranky Old Guy. They've been around long enough to have spent considerable time in pre-AW-ban CA, and well remember what it was like before CA became restrictive. By now they're pretty fed up with it. Many of them regret not having been more politically active back in '89... or '99... etc. Fueled by the desire to avoid seeing yet another nail driven into the coffin of the old CA, most COGs will put more energy into calling and writing than the rest of us will ever muster.

Here's the catch, though: YOU have to contact them and keep them aware of what's going on. A good COG will, unless you're VERY active, outwrite and outcall you any day of the week (one of my favorite COGs is probably reading this, actually, since I mailed him the link not long ago!), but typically COGs don't want to read forums or receive a bunch of NRA email. Usually they prefer to get their info directly from someone who does keep up on it.

I encourage you, guys - if you aren't already doing this, check into the COGs you know and find out how many of 'em would be interested in writing/calling politicians if they were provided appropriate contact info. I can just about guarantee you that most of you have at least 2-3 contacts who'd actually be willing to hassle the politicians just as much as you do, as long as YOU provide them the contact info.

It may mean writing a couple extra emails, or it may mean making some printouts. But if only 10% of Calgunners do actually make contact, that means that each COG is worth 10 Calguns readers. When you think about it that way, building and maintaining a personal network isn't much work at all compared to the payoff, and I highly encourage all of you guys to do so - even if you yourself personally don't bother writing/calling!

Been calling and emailing...it sounds like they're open to hearing from us, but I felt well received when I called the assembly folk on the bill that time around and look what happened

I'm confused, how is this related to the news reported here:

http://nramemberscouncils.com/legs.shtml?summary=ab362&year=2008

Which seems to indicate that the bill has been amended into a study proposal. I realize the numbers don't match, but the content seems the same as the bill you referenced.

That is not the same bill as AB2062 !!!

We can't let AB 2062 slip by. Everyone must contact their reps. If that doesn't work we have to hammer the governor with emails, calls, and faxes. It's vital.
