Illegal to target shoot while not hunting season?

I will be going to elderado national forest today and want to go target shooting, i hear there is a new law prohibiting target shooting on public forest land while it is not hunting season. Firearms are legal 22's and shotguns.

No law that I have heard of. Regardless, there is always a hunting season open. Be it for coyote, jack rabbit, pig, ect... plus a whole slew of varmits and non-game animals. So that would make the NF open 24-7-365 by my calculation.

You can target shoot in the Eldorado NF 365 days a year as stated......


But you better have targets of some kind if you don't have a hunting license, just in case.

Call the ranger station for that area or go on line and do an internet search for the area where you want to shoot. It seems silly but we can't just go shooting in national and state forest where we used to: it might be forest fire concerns or just part of the blizzard of new laws that were past. With today’s gas prices, we have to check before go to our favorite shooting places.

They do that every year. Last time I was there was the first week of June and the range hadn't been closed yet.
