that .22 long rifle has gone up in price, i think i got mine for about 100 a few years ago. shoots okay, but i haven't shot any other .22s since i was a kid shooting my dads .22. it doesn't have problems like my sig mosquito. its still a nice little .22 hand gun, and my friends like it too, but they love dissing me and my sigs, one of them will probably read this shortly after i post. i like the shotgun though. maybe big five will soon carry fully built ARs, so i can buy one through them without having to read the thread on building one. piecing shiz*** together is not my thing, though i work with my hands, prefer not to use them i guess, when not working. and if big 5 eventually carries them, they'll probably have a 50 percent off sale every other week. yay!

you might want to try and learn tho giv, I don't think Big 5 is changing anytime soon and it's good to know the inner workings of a AR :).

I bought the Charles Daly Field Tactical from Big 5 in March when it was on sale for $200. Brand new, but still never fired it yet :(

Best deal / price shouldn't be the only major factor in purchasing decision. I would suggest looking for proven, quality designs that will last you for a long time.

The M1 Carbines are avaiable for $500-$700 from CMP: http://www.odcmp.com/rifles/carbine.htm
as well as M1 Garands http://www.odcmp.com/Services/Rifles/m1garand.htm

For a semi-auto .22LR rifle, I think good ones are Ruger 10/22 or Marlin Model 60 series (holds 14 rounds of .22LR) in tubular magazine.

For self-defense pump shotguns, look for Mossberg 590 or Remington 870.

Hello All,

This is my first post to the forum :)

I just wanted to know what kind of choke was on the 28 in barrel with the Mossberg 500 combo at Big 5 - link
is below.

Over the years I've seen the 500 combo kits come with fixed full or modified chokes or with screw out chokes. I think most, if not all, of the kits today come with removable choke tubes (except the rare .410 kits).
