View Full Version : Browning .338 Win BAR
06-09-2008, 3:37 PM
Selling a used Browning .338 Win BAR w/o Boss. It was one of my late Granddad's rifles with little sentimental value or use to me here in Ca. Reason for the sale is that I want to purchase a pistol with the funds.
I think he only put maybe 2 boxes worth of shells through the rifle, those used to sight the rifle and rounds for the animals themselves. Rifle is in great cosmetic shape, like new. I believe there's a Simmons scope on the rifle, too. I can get the exact scope model later... The rifle (which actually belongs to me since my Grandfather's death) is still being held in his rifle safe at my Grandmother's house but I will be getting photos of it later this week.
Asking $800 firm, buyer pays PPT fee, and will meet in the Sacramento area to do the PPT (prefer Gun Room in Elk Grove).
Again, picture to follow in the next couple days if not sooner.

Could you take a look on the barrel and note where it was made? It may also say made in one place and assembled in another. That would be helpful information. And/or include the serial number.

Thanks for the info on what to look for. I'll be sure to post that information when I pick-up the rifle.

Finally got the rifle. Pics are low quality but that's only because it's a first generation POS digital camera.
I couldn't get the barrel markings to come in clear but it has the Browning Utah, the Made in Belgium by FN, and the assembled in Portugal stamps clearly marked.
Rifle is in great shape I might add. Wood has wonderful figure to it. I forgot just how nice the wood is. I'll go ahead and throw in the scope. It's an adjustable Tasco x7 power.
There a couple light use scratches on the receiver but nothing out of the ordinary. Sorry, that blemish on the left side just below the scope is fuzz from the case I think, not a mark on the steel.
I also have 31 rounds of .338Win Federal Premium Safari with 250gr Nosler Partitions I'll let go for $30, yours free with the rifle.

That wood looks awesome.
Does it have iron sights, or a front sight?

Sorry, no front sight.

Here are some more photos.
Somebody buy this! It's a great rifle and would be great for elk and other larger game. It swings well, too... I imagine target acquisition would be a breeze.
CAN ALSO ACCEPT PAYPAL. We can work out details once payment is received.

Hopefully those photos will be easier seen now.
No doubt, that is a nice rifle. The BAR really reduces the recoil of the heavy hitting .338 Win Mag cartridge too (I have a newer version of that exact rifle). It's just a tough market right now.
