Ok, I'm getting a Stag upper with a 1:7" twist rate barrel. I've heard that 40 grain ammo likes to self destruct in a fast in a fast twist barrel. So what should I use? Standard 55 grain?

Your 1 in 7 twist really wants the heavier bullets for best results, but will also digest bullets as light as 55 gr.
Don't waste your $ on 40 grainers unless you want to create smoke and noise only.
Load 77 grain pills and that rig will shine for you.

62 gr and above is what you want to use in a 1&7 twist barrels, I never knew that stag made a 1 &7 twist upper I got to check that out :http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/images/smilies/smile.gif

Woops, my bad! It says 1/9" twist barrel :(
So, since its a slower twist rate, lighter gains are ok too? I have no use for 40grains anyway, so 55gr. or 62gr.?

both 55 and 62 will work fine in a 1/9, 62 will be a bit more accurate than 55 though.

I have a 1:8 twist barrel, shoots everything from 50 and above just fine. The new "non-lead" 50Gr. varmint grenades from barnes say they are for a 1:9 or faster twist barrel. Just stay away from the 36 to 40 grain stuff.
