hey guys,

i just finished my first OLL build. I picked up a YHM lightweight upper. I wasnt sure- when i pull back the charging handle and load a round, the charging handle should retract on its own right? i didnt see an internal spring of any sort that was connected to the bolt carrier or charging handle, so i was unsure.

anyways, any help would be appreciated!

pics to be up soon =P

The charging handle catches on the front top of the carrier.
If you have the bolt latched back, there is nothing to make the charging handle go forward.
The bolt carrier flying forward will close the charging handle, but that's a bad habit so don't start doing it that way.
Just push it forward until it latches into the receiver.

Also, to load a round, don't withdraw the handle and release it.
The handle bouncing around will sometimes cause a failure to go fully into battery.
The better way to load is to rack the bolt back and lock it, run the charging handle forward and then release the bolt to load the chamber from the magazine.

I'm not quite an Elite Team Fighter yet. I have a few more videos to watch and memorize. So I was wondering if anyone knows of a good video on performing the above mentioned procedure. I am Ultra Noob as I am just starting to scratch the surface on researching my first build.

There are tons on youtube.

It's easier than it seems.

Pull charging handle back and engage bolt catch.
Push charging handle back into carrier.
Load magazine.
Release bolt catch.
Fire!

For BBs or Prince 50s who top load not quite possible.

Ok, then have bolt go forward. Pivot on front takedown. Charge handle, release. How much harder is that? And who uses a BB AND top loads?

Me, my son and I believe some members here.
I shoot at Piru and they advice not to remove the magazine when you load.
Correction - Not Piru but "A PLace to Shoot".

ETA - Their policy not because we cannot do it.
