Here. (http://blog.robballen.com/archive/2008/06/04/I-think-I-found-what-I-want-to-get-engraved.aspx)

He's going with the "Don't Panic" version; the "Panic" was an earlier design. Both suitable for hoopy frood AR owners everywhere.

I like the idea of "mostly harmless" that was brought up on his thread. It would put the antis at ease. How could you get worked up about a mostly harmless assault weapon? That just makes the ban look silly!

Panic, Don't Panic would be great selector markings too.

Not my rifle -- belongs to a guy named Robb Allen, his blog is linked in the first post. I'm not quite sure how it's being engraved, he said something about going to a gun show to get it done. Lives in Florida.

Update: I found a link at Robb Allen's site to the place that does the engraving. They do it by laser etching. They have lots of examples, many quite funny. Check it out. (http://www.anvilarms.com/showgallery.aspx?galleryid=3)

I like this one myself:

Yeah. I'd be interested. Especially if the third ( non-selectable ) position was labeled "Improbable."

Too bad it doesn't say "So long, and thanks for all the fish." instead of "Don't Panic". :)

I can make it say anything you want it to say.

The process is "Laser Engraving" all done with nothing more than a beam of light.

There are some samples on my website of a few of the previous jobs we have done. On ARFCOM in my Industry Provider section there are over 200 pictures of previous jobs.

A note to Calguns board admins: I do not mean for this to be an advertisement. I was sent a link to this thread by one of the people posting here and asked to come give an explanation and further info. I hope this is acceptable under your TOS, if not, please let me know and I'll remove it. - Thanks..

Jon, or anyone else that has had this done, how durable is it? Would it hold up on a beater, or is it only for safe queens?

And engraving is free with the purchase of an Anvil Arms lower; and the lowers are offered at $100 per (http://www.anvilarms.com/pc-36-19-stripped-lower-receiver.aspx).

Verrrrrrrrrrry interesting. That's a pretty good hook. :)

Sorry it took me so long to see and respond to this post, (To be honest I just now found it again by accident). If you have direct questions please send us a direct email so we can address it quickly..

To answer the durability question, if you don't mind, take a minute and read the info at www.AnvilArms.com/LASER (http://www.AnvilArms.com/LASER) it will answer the durability question and much more.

I hope that helps some. If not, drop me an email and let me know!

And by the way... the laser engraving is VERY durable.... :)

This is AWESOME.

Anyone know of a laser engraver in SoCal that might want to take on this kind of work? I have at least two lowers that I would get done.

Don't forget, if they do not hold a FFL you can not send it, you must hand carry it there and wait for it to be done. You can not leave it there. California probably has even more restrictive rules than that.

If they do hold a FFL and are in California there is probably some kind of paperwork you or they must file with the state and likely a fee involved with that.

Of course I am just guessing since we have none of that to deal with here and your free to send it directly to us and us directly back to you since it is considered a "Repair".
