What should I get? It will be a hunting rifle, so I would like a 18-22" barrel. Mainly boar, deer, varmits. The price of the AR10s almost put it out of reach.

Are there any non lead CA condor approved rounds for 6.8? Is anyone making 20" 6.8 barrels?

http://68forums.com - very good info here for hunting with 6.8SPC

http://www.ssarmory.com/6.8_spc_ammo.aspx - SSA offers a lead-free round.

prepare to pay $$$ for ammo if you dont handload. but if you do handload the guys at 68forums are developing some real good rounds for any application.

Personally, I would go with an AR-10 or 6.5 Grendel. Oh wait, I have!;)

man i've gone with 2 very different 6.5 grendels... one 16" vanadium sabre barrel and one 20" stainless barrel. ammo matters of course for hunting. i would go with the 123gr lapua scenar if you can find it, though 120gr nosler ballistic tip is soooooo nice. there is wolf gold like MPT (multi-purpose tactical) which i hear is QUITE nice and in hollow point form and isn't horribly expensive. hunting boar is a good bit different than deer/varmint... they're resilient bastards. usually i go with my .50 beowulf for boar ha ha ha...

AR-10? um... .308 springs to mind. if you can afford that then do it. i would say it's better than 6.5 grendel for the sheer power behind and weight of the bullet. can't really go wrong with that. it's a judgement call on your part, of course, but if you want an all-purpose hunter/sniper go AR-10 in .308. sometimes 6.5 just isn't enough.
