Obviously you could just buy an Armalite upper in .308 but can you also just go and buy an Armalite AR-10 lower to match it and then just do accessories from there? What are the technical snags and/or legal issues regarding .308s and getting a .308 lower receiver? Help please!

The best option right now is a Noveske Lower which is manufactured for Noveske by Armalite and stamped Noveske.

An armalite LOWEr would be ON THE LIST and prohibited. You would have to buy a lower that's OLL and designed to fit the AR-10 upper, like the Noveske. This is what I was planning to do.

What's wrong with the Fulton lowers besides the fact that the company won't ship to CA? They can still get here through indirect means (using a middle man FFL). They use DPMS uppers.

Tim at Fort COurage told me those lowers fit the DPMS and Knights Uppers -- he asked about making an AR-10 I assumed with an Armalite upper.

That contradicts what Armalite says here: http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=2&f=27&t=160920

It doesn't really matter who makes it.
What matters is that it is definitely up to AR-10 specs and will fit an AR-10 upper without any problems.

That´s the line we were all fed by CWS here when he posted them for sale. You figure that nobody has made a Armalite compatible lower until now, so it is highly likely that the Noveske is an Armalite.

OK so what about the DPMS guns? I would love to buy their Panther™ LRT-SASS (drooooooool...) but is DPMS prohibited in CA?

Your options include the Fulton lower (takes DPMS uppers), Noveske lower (takes Armalite uppers), Rock River Arms (not sure if they are released yet). I'm sure I'm forgetting some.

I say the best bet is either the Fulton lower or Noveske. Just depends on what upper brand you want to use.

While at J&J for their Memorial sale, I heard talk of a J&J .308 lower, coming soon. I will be on their waiting list.

POF's are of the DMPS/Fulton family.

You can put an Armalite upper on a DPMS compatible lower but there'll be an unsightly gap. See:

http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=62&t=378850

about 1/2 way down the page.

Knight SR25s don't fit the DPMS they are cut like the AR10.

I bought a DPMS .308 AP4 upper & the entire rest of the gun (less lower) from a friend in Nevada including the lower parts & stock. It was a brand new rifle & he had it for sale but the lower obviously is banned by name here in CA. I bought a Fulton .308 stripped lower & used every single part from the DPMS AP4 to assemble it per CA specs. It looks awesome & I'm in it for about a $1k. I haven't had the chance to shoot it though. I plan on breaking it in with my new CMMG .223 on fathers day!
