I am planning on purchasing a .22 rifle in the near future and am looking for some advice. I have been looking at the Ruger 1022 primarily and would like to see what everyone else thinks about this rifle. If you were to get something else comparable what would you get?

It depends. Are you going to customize it, or keep it stock? There's nothing really special about a stock 10/22, but if you are going the customize route, their is no other 22 cal rifle that has as many options. If you are looking for a new .22 cal that compares to a factory 10/22, I'd go for a Marlin model 60, or a Remmington 552.

Semi, 10/22 is the way to go. Get a trigger kit from "swampfox" on rimfire central.com for $45. This is the most important upgrade parts kit. Drops the trigger pull to about 2 3/4 lbs, and includes a bolt buffer, auto bolt release and extended mag release.

Bolt action, the savage mkII gets excellent reviews, as does the CZ 452

Be aware that the new 10/22 has a plastic trigger/trigger guard. The ones up to this year have cast metal. Already the metal ones are far more desirable though no one has yet to find any ACTUAL fault with the new plastic one.

I just modified my 10/22 and it is now even a better plinker. I recommend it even if you leave it stock, but would be better to make some mods to it. First thing I would replace if the trigger and hammer. Modify the bolt, and mod so the bolt will release by pulling on it. Then if you want to go further upgrade the barrel and stock.

Can't beat a 10/22 for the money. Even if you are Bill Gates, you gotta own one. They're just too fun and reliable. c good

I had a blast at the range today with my 10/22, touched grouping with near rapid fire shots.

not to thread-jack, but does anyone have any opinions/experience with this butler creek stock and barrel combo from butler creek for the 10/22?

Can you legally get all the assault weapon stuff on a 10/22 since it's rimfire?

10/22 was the first firearm that I purchased. It is a great gun. I did the trigger upgrades like everyone already mentioned and put a scope on top. Everyone loves to shoot it. Make sure to get more magazines and one of those butler creek loaders. They can be bought for pretty cheap online. I would say go with the 10/22.

Nice 10/22 Sig357. That is a great looking gun. How much do you have into it?

You can put an evil cop killer bayonet/bottle opener flash suppressor and folding stock on it and it's still tits. Just no mags over 10 rnds.

Well, I'm not quite sure yet, but I'm sure it's banned for centerfire "evil black rifles" as an "assault weapons feature":D:D:D Ya know how dangerous a bottle opener can be.... and a bottle opener on a black rifle is really bad ju-ju...
