Can anyone point me in the direction of where to get an HK G3, Not a clone but an actual one. I have a buddy that asks me every time i see him where to get him one, and I promised him I'd show him where to get one.

An actual G3 is a full auto assault rifle. The HK semi-auto versions are CA banned, except for the HK911 and SR9's.

the G3 is a select fire weapon.

You might be lucky and find a HK91- a semi-automatic version imported from 1974-1989. Try gun broker or HKPro boards.

Crap- just read above those are banned. Good luck trying to find one. :)

He can get an M1A though, those are perfectly legal.

There is no HK G3 available to civilians here in California as far as I know. There is an Hk-91, but you cannot get that here because it is on the ban list. You can get an Hk-911 or Hk Sr9 t and tc. I think there is also one that is called the Hk-41 or 411? Can't remember. There are others but they are "clones." FMP makes a G3 (these are imported from Portugal I believe) I believe and it is pretty darn good when compared to the real Hk's as well as the PTR-91's. There is also Springfield import Sar-8 which is also very well made (not the aluminum receiver).

HK were ban in series, 91-93-94. G3 are military version. There's a 911 in the for sale thread, or you can try to find an SR9, another version of the G3. These are the closest you'll be able to get in CA. If he's outside CA then game on.

Ahhh, yeah i was wondering why i never saw them for sale in the FS section, I just figured that they were so good no one wanted to sell them :90: My buddy is from south america and served in the Army there and they issued him a G3 so he was trying to see if they were legal here, i was not aware that they were illegal, I just informed him though and am pointing him in the direction of a M1a.

Try looking at the Springfield Armory SAR 3 or SAR 8 that are made by Greece EBO. Greece EBO is a HK License manufacturer of HK G3/91.

I own both the HK 911 and a SAR 8 and both are equally quality made rifle. I can't tell the difference between the two.

The SAR 3 or SAR 8 are cheaper and that's the only difference besides the name.

Where do you get the SAR rifles and why are they legal?

Where do you get the SAR rifles whereever you can find one. They aren't currently being imported, IIRC.and why are they legal?

Because the SAR-3 and SAR-8 aren't on the list. Along as they are featureless or 10-round fixed-mag, they're ok. The FAL-pattern SAR-48 is listed however.

As far as originals go........they are all clones for the most part........of military unobtainium......for regular civies.....

M1A just a clone of the M-14.....

PTR-91/HK-91.....clones of G3....

The list goes on and on.......tell your friend to look at the PTR line-up he won't be dissapointed if he really likes the G3 design....

My .02 - get an M1A before they are banned.... I really see them bitting the dust in the future... and since I own 20 rounds mags since before 90 - I can use them in my M1A..

The PTR-91 is the best current production HK91 clone on the market.

If an original HK is what you want, look for an HK911, SR9 (and variants) and HK41 (or HK43 if you want a .223). Everything else is banned in CA.

That being said, you will pay. I paid nearly 1700 for my HK911, slightly less for my SR9. HK41's are pretty scarce, but can be had for $2500-$3000. If you want a shooter, go with a PTR91, it is as good, if not better than an H&K made rifle. Many of us believe it to be the best G3 clone currently made. Vector makes a fine .223 HK33/93 clone as well, and from what I hear their customer service is very good if you have any problems (I have yet to have a problem with my Vectors).

If you can find one, the Portugese FMP and Greek made (Hellenic Arms IIRC) Springfield SAR rifles are identical to the HK and PTR, made under license on HK tooling in those respective countries. PTR's are currently made on the old FMP HK-licensed machinery.

ETA: If you get a real HK, you can always have one of the HK smiths like RDTS, or IGF restamp it with "HK G3" It's perfectly legal, but they usually wont mark "HK" on rifles that arent genuine HK.

Thanks for the help everyone. I guess Im going to tell him to get a PTR91, He isn't as internet savvy as me so If i can find him a PTR91 or something very similar to a G3 he said he'll pay me 500 bucks, but im definately not looking to get him anything illegal so a PTR91 may be the focus as of now.

$100 for me, $400 for you seems fair to me. (http://www.lanworldinc.com/HK.html)

If you have unlimited funds, you might be able to find one of the very few HK semi auto G3's that were imported prior to the 41.

Plan on dropping about 10K. There's been one listed on GB off and on for quite some time.
