View Full Version : quick question about Socom II

I came across a decent deal on a Socom II. I would much rather have a Socom. Do the rails just come off? Is the stock different underneath or behind the rails??
Searching did not lead me to the answer.

Yep, the rail comes off. I believe the stock is just a typical USGI stock with the selector hole filled in, and then the whole thing is refinished and repainted. If you can get the SOCOM II for less than a SOCOM 16, I'd say go for it. Otherwise, you'll just be paying for a rail you're not going to use.

If the socom II has the extended top rail (goes all the way back to the stripper clip guide) and you want to mount optics on top anyway you can just remove the bottom half of the rail. Still heavier than a 16 but the there's no need to get and install an aftermarket scope rail.

Hold out for a Socom16.........the 2 is just waaay to front heavy. If vertical grips were ok on them, it wouldn't be a problem....but- you know. When you spend that much for a rifle- you might as well get what you want.
