CALNRA: Ammo Ban and Smart Gun Bills Before Assembly
5/28/2008 9:05 AM - PLEASE DISTRIBUTE WIDELY
AB 2062 AMMO SALES RESTRICTIONS (De Leon) and AB 2235 SMART GUNS (DeSaulnier) are on the Assembly Floor and could come up for a vote as early as Tuesday, June 3, 2008. Please contact the members of the Assembly and urge a NO vote on the bill.
AB 2062...
(1) Bans the mail order or Internet sale of Handgun Ammunition
(2) Handgun Ammunition sales are registered at the point of purchase
(3) A new Handgun Ammunition vendor permit required
(4) Handgun Ammunition vendor display security requirement
(5) Handgun Ammunition sales at locations other than licensed location would be restricted. - ban gun show sales ???
(6) Bans the sales and transfer of more than 50 rounds per month of Handgun Ammunition between private citizens without a vendor license
AB 2235 remains fraught with problems...
(1) The Attorney General is charged with identifying existing guns that meet the bill's "Smart Gun" requirements
(2) CADOJ must then report to the legislature within 6 months
(3) 18 months later the results are to be codified in regulations that require new handguns sold to be equipped with that technology.

I emailed all my reps and left phone messages too!
Everybody should, if this passes, we'll ALL be in a world of hurt. :(
I also emailed the Senator and asked her to stand up against Perata and support Jeff Denham. Not to be partisan, but because it's the right thing to do.
I have my email handy if anyone wants to see what I wrote. This is most important!! PLEASE guys (and girls), PLEASE write your Senators and ask them to oppose Perata and do the right thing.

For those of you to young to remember, From 1968, federal law required gun dealers to collect information on handgun ammunition purchases. The law was scrapped in 1986 when ATF testified before Congress that it was useless.
Please call now to stop this bill.
44 faxes sent so far. Email would be faster, but faxes add WEIGHT!

Runner voted NAY! I hope that my email to him is what helped!! Here's my letter:
Dear Senator Runner,
Please vote NO on AB 2062. As I hope you are aware, this bill will do nothing to curb any criminal activity, and at worst will do nothing more than criminalize the law-abiding citizens that want only to be able to practice their shooting skills, hunting and protect themselves and their loved ones.
It is a poorly written bill at best, and a horrible attempt at controlling the citizens of this state.
Please do those of us in your district the honor of not capitulating to the Politically Correct know-it-alls that really know nothing of how to STOP crime, but merely to go through the motions of passing “feel good” legislation.
Very respectfully,
/signed/
I also sent letters to Senator McClintock, Senator Coto and Assemblywoman Julia Brownley. Capps is next...
Come on guys, kick this into high gear!! We CAN'T let this pass!!!!!!!!!!!!

Uh, no. On the summary pages, for example...
http://calnra.com/legs.shtml?year=2008&summary=ab2062
...where it says, for example...
Send a ONE-CLICK Email to the ASSEMBLY (http://calnra.com/legs.shtml#contactinfo) against AMMO SALES RESTRICTIONS (http://calnra.com/legs.shtml?year=2008&summary=ab2062) (AB 2062)
...note that there are TWO LINKS THERE.
If you click on the "Send a ONE-CLICK Email to the ASSEMBLY" part, you go to the list of ALL ONE-CLICKS (feel free to use each one), of which AB 2062 will be listed. each is the same deal - two different links - click on "Send a ONE-CLICK Email to the ASSEMBLY" again - there - and it will open your email client.
In all cases, the right hand link (name of legislation) will take you to the summary page for the bill.
Confused? Ask the designer. (That's me - I donate the legislative info system to CA NRA and maintain it.)

Just sent my one click messages!
#$@& these retarded bills! This has to be the worst year yet.
If the ammo bill passes I hope ammo manufactures place their own ammo restrictions on law enforcement in this state, to only 50 rounds per month per officer.

I e-mailed my Assembly-Person, Wilmer Carter (D). We're new to her district, so the "(D)" doesn't exactly inspire me with confidence.

Does anyone have all the assembly / senate phone numbers in a spreadsheet? I know they are on the web, but if I can put them in a grid it would make it easier to dial while I drive. The damn lines all blur together going down the road on the printed out web version.
