Alright here's the deal folks. I'm new to rifles. I've been doing research and I'd like to build a .22LR AR-15 with evil features like removable magazine and pistol grip. My question is there a tutorial on how to fully accomplish the rifle I want? I know there are a bunch of threads about this but I get confused on which uppers to get and which lowers to build. Is there a full tutorial out there either on this site or else where that can give me a complete parts list and even a how to on how to assemble the lower? I want the satisfaction of building my own rifle but I really have no clue where to start. I plan on building a lower and just buying a complete upper. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance!

Building the .22lr lower is no different than building one for a 223/556 AR except you can have detachable magazines and all the features banned in pc 12276, which is specific to centerfire rifles. As for buying a complete upper, I went with a Spikes Tactical.

I gave a wrong link. Please see jandmtv's post below for the correct one

You will have to build just the lower which consists of a lower receiver, lower parts kit, stock, and magazine, and you will have to buy a complete .22lr upper from spikes or a bottom feeder company like model 1 sales.

yes i've read nothing but good things about uppers from spikes. i'm pretty sure that's the one i will go with.

bohoki.. thanks for the heads up! i'll be sure to avoid the army 22 conversion.

while doing a google search i came across this. seems to be everything you'll need for the whole lower assembly. http://www.ar15.com/content/guides/assembly/lower/
so all i'll need to do is follow this guide and purchase a complete upper like the one from spikes and i'll be good to go right? how do you go about registering the rifle once it's built?

You may want to watch the video on this link on how to assemble the lower.

There will be no need to register it after you do the DROS on it.
Spikes Rules by the way I have about 5k rounds through mine and it is Awesome.

thanks scuba that link is exactly what i was looking for. anybody have any tips on how to properly test your rifle once it is all put together? i'd hate for the thing to fall apart while i'm trying to fire the thing haha.

what lowers do you all recommend? i'm in to saving money but i'm also in to quality.

Check the OLL Assembly Guide at the top of any calguns.net page. I used it this past Memorial Day weekend to assemble my first OLL. It has the function check you'll want to perform in it's instructions.

I have 3 Stags 1 Grizzly and 1 Mega Gator. Out of all of them I like the Grizzly and the Gator for fit and finish. The Stags are fine also but I really don't like the deer they were just cheap. If you use the search button most people will tell you pick one with the logo you like and go with it. Just don't buy Vulcan they seem to have a bad rep on CG>
