I cranked this one out right before A52 so that I could shoot it there, but didn't have time to put a finish on it. Well during the shoot I ran 809 rounds through it without a single malfunction. Best of all, ammo is only $0.13 a round! And now I'm happy to say that I finally finished it with semi-gloss black Moly Resin. Moly Resin has got to be ten times as tough as the cheapo factory paint finish that the Poles originally put on this gun.

I also modified the left side selector to work as a safety. Unlike most conversions, I did not attach it to the right side safety lever. Instead, I made it move independently. This makes it easier to operate since you don't need gorilla thumbs to torque the lever up and down. Unfortunately I lost the tiny ball bearing detent for the selector so I'll need to find a replacement.

The only thing that did not turn out so well on this build is the goddamn selector markings. Let me tell you something: a fully hardened receiver does not stamp well! I should have put the markings on before heat treating it. I also need to figure out a neater way to make the selector dimples.

It's got a Romy G stock on it for now. I'll probably replace it with a Ace skeleton stock eventually. I'll probably also get a MMG grip for it.

That is a Beautiful Tantal!:43:

800+ rounds and no jamming... That is Excellent!

Which US made Tantal MB did you end up going with?

Kudos to you and your build!

No you don't have to, although I did want to. Unfortunately my tank was a little bit too short for a fully assembled AK. I did sandblast the entire thing throughly with 60 grit aluminum oxide at 90 PSI to prepare it for the Moly Resin though.

This one was built on a flat, which cost about $30 or so, plus $6 rivets, plus $8 center support. A Tantal kit nowadays will run you anywhere from $350 to $379. I got this one almost a year ago for $250 though. :D

Very nice :) Mine looks almost exactly the same, but I put a MMG and romy stock on so I could use my preban mags ;)

I agree about the cheapo paint that was on them, runs right off with a little brake cleaner. I don't know much about their original condition but my guess is that the original finish wore off and the really crappy black paint was applied later, either by the Poles or directly before/after importation to improve their look for faster sale. Just my WAG.

I have <350$ into mine too :D

nice, I have a tantal kit that is waiting to go. Although correct with the folder stock I too prefer a solid stock but was always wondering which one to use. Your G stock seems like the best choice, the colors match the plastic Polish handguards well.

I will have to copy ya!

Got it a long time ago, don't remember where. I can't seem to find them now. Tantal brakes are threaded 14x1mm LH and work with AK47s. But most AK47 brakes don't work with Tantals because the barrel extends about an inch past the threads.
