Hello All;
Allan's Armory has Chinese T53 carbines for sale. The price is very good.

What are your collective opinions on the Chinese T53 Mosin Nagant carbine?

Thanks;
Ken

I got one a few years back from SOG of course I paid for handpick because I wanted a nice one and a certain year on receiver. I like mine....

Literal clones of M44s, as long as it's in okish shape you shouldn't have any troubles.

Edited to add:

The M39 is a good choice too, and Finn carbines are really rare, just an FYI. The T53 is more just for fun range plinking, the M39 can be capable of some serious accuracy.

Mine (t53) is a fun shooter, and surprisingly accurate.

I put a little BLO on the stock, and it looks like a lumpy wood turd, instead of a lumpy black clay turd.

Most (not all) T53s are beaters that are cheap, have great triggers and shoot well. Most are really ugly, I think it was the Chu wood that the Chinese used, a lot of them look like they were buried in a swamp. Asia is really humid. It's cool to have a Mosin carbine with Chinese characters on the receiver.
The M39 is a completely different gun. I would get one as long as it isn't too beat up, then set your sights on an M39.

the metal and bore are usually very nice. I have owned 3 and am very impressed with how nice they shoot. BIG thumbs up.I shot one of them today and it worked like a champ and loved my surplus ammo. The wood is usually pretty dinged up but not cracked.

I like beater guns. Actually, I have just started my journey on collecting.

I am seeing in the future ...

- beaters
- not so beaters
- decent
- oh heck ... I just better go git one!

Last time I shot mine, I got 4/5 shots on steel at 100yds, off bench, not really trying

Picked it from a lot of 5 from my LGS 2yrs ago

I'd say get one

Love my T53.

If you can pick through a bunch, you can probably find a good one. This one had a minty bore. Needed a new extractor and interrupter, tho.

T53 are known for good machining and decent triggers.
The newer imports you can expect the wood to be rough and 15-0% shellac left.
The older ones (Navy Arms?) have good wood and shellac but generally have sewer pipe barrels.

Personally I have a pair of newer imports that are in 99% condition and I know some others here do as well so there are good ones out there.

I waited till I got home to place the order.

They are all gone!

Next time, I will not fuss over the Type-03 FFL. I will just place the order and get the paper work in at a later time.

Oh well!

If you can get an m44 at a decent price, get it. If not, the type53's are very well thought-of and from what I've seen, decent quality. Some of the stocks, as mentioned, are kinda crappy but aside from that, they're good shooters and hard to beat for cheap ammo. Get one as soon as you can and shoot it! You'll never regret it.

I got the M44 instead. A tad more money but really the same gun. And like someone said, usually in a bit better shape.

these are excellent guns. Wood sucks, but metal work is far superior to many of the Russian made mosins out there. Triggers are also, on average, far and away better than Russians. Always look past the wood and pay close attention to the bayonet lug where there is metal to metal contact as bayonet is extended. If that is still black, that's a good sign. Also, if muzzle is still black, also a good sign.

Careful of rust in hidden places. Its fairly common to find rust on the metal where the stock is covering it, even with heavy cosmoline. Many will not have cleaning rods, and even fewer will have matching bolts.

My experience with matching numbers on the bolts has been that maybe 5% or so will have matching bolts. Seem to also be the ones with the most retained finish too.

these are under rated and also still very underpriced IMO.

Yep, love my T53. Nice trigger, great shooter. Terrific value. Often under appreciated, they are the Rodney Dangerfield of Mosins.

A little rust spot under the hand guard is common. It does bother me but i have learned to live with it and enjoy my T-53s.None matching and forced matching are the norm with M-44s & T 53s. Even my 1955 Romanian M-44 had a bolt that did not match. but the action was smooth as butter. At one time i had a beautiful laminated Russian M-44 and that darn thing had a very stiff action. So beauty is not everything.

The T53 will turn heads at the range. Not for looks but, for the big "bang". That's about it. Accuracy on a T53 will give you plenty of fliers. Go for a Finnish.

Yep, here is my T53. I bought it online a while back. I once had it listed for sale and I'm glad there were no takers because I later realized what a great rifle it is. The stock was in poor condition so I replaced it.

Bore is perfect
Receiver, magplate, and bolt are matching. Only nonmatched parts are stock and buttplate.

Looks real good B.R.. Have you thought about using some tung oil on it to bring out the wood luster?

I hadn't but that is a good idea Sir.
