Former Mass. governor buying home in La Jolla
May 24, 2008
Mitt Romney is in escrow on an oceanfront home in La Jolla. The former
Massachusetts governor is on a short list of possible running mates for
Republican Sen. John McCain.
Romney and a few other vice presidential prospects are meeting socially with
McCain this weekend. Romney dropped out of the presidential race Feb. 7.
He reportedly was looking at homes here in conjunction with his friends and
financial supporters, John and Victoria Miller, who just bought actor Cliff
Robertson's oceanfront estate for $16.5 million. The Millers were finance
chairs for Romney's presidential campaign.
He now lives in Massachusetts but also owns a lake house in New Hampshire
and a vacation home in Deer Valley, Utah.
The question of the day: Could Romney be planning to establish residency in
California with an eye on the governor's seat? Gov. Schwarzenegger is forced
out by term limits in 2010. Stay tuned . .

"Could Romney be going for guv in '10?"
I SURE HOPE SO! Damn, we need some more electable, viable GOP leaders in this state. Right now there's only ONE (or I should say, "ein") and he's termed out.

No way. Mitt fights the other side like an umbrella stops a hurricane. What CA needs is someone who will actually kick butt, not kiss it.

I SURE HOPE NOT! This guy is anti-gun. Read this article. The NRA-ILA has more info on Romney's record if you wanted to look it up or don't want to trust just one article.

"The flap comes as Mr. Romney has tried to win the support of gun rights advocates. While he supported strict gun control measures when he ran for governor of Massachusetts in 2002, he joined the National Rifle Association months before launching his presidential campaign."
He's just progun on an election year when he needs the NRA's support for his presidential nomination. I'm really surprised some people don't know Romney is anti-gun and assume he's pro-gun just because he in the Republican party.

He doesn't stand a chance. He tacked to the center to win and govern the M*******s and tacked right to run for president. he didn't fool enough people in 2008 to get the nomination and he'll have a hard time reverse his tack to run for gov here.

I think it's pretty clear that he is planning to run for governor in several States at one time. He wants to become the first multi-state supergovernor.
Polygovernory is legal in Utah, ya know.

Like Bill has said time and time again on this forum, McClintock needs to drop the pro-life rhetoric. He's alienating too many swing voters which any Republican needs in order to win the governor's office in this state.

? Maybe he holds that position based on principle? (I don't know)
What makes anyone think that a pol who drops one principle when it is politically expendient, will stand by any other principle (like the 2nd) when times are "tough"?

I'm not saying he should change his principles. My arguement is that he should tone down his pro-life rhetoric. It's a means to an end. That's politics and this is California.

Better Romney than Villar or Newsome.

Unfortunately, probably not. He's too good like my man Fred Thompson was too good. Although I have vowed to vote for Tom every chance I get from now until the day he stops running for office, it's not likely that he'll get a chance to lead the state, even after his relatively narrow defeat for Lt. Gov in 2006. He will make a good US Rep for the 4th District and looks to be a shoo-in, and given time he might be able to make a run for US Senate to replace Feinswine if she finally gives it up in 2012 (she'll be 79 years old) or Boxer if she checks out in 2016, which would give him 4 consecutive terms in the House with which to draw up a good voting record and profile.
