Me and the wife took the AR out to the desert this weekend and I got to fire it for the first time. Ran absolutely flawlessly. I'm super pleased with this rifle. More pics and specs of the rifle in the link in my sig.

Haha, yeah, I wanted to make the background blurred so I used a really large aperture, but that can really do a number on perspective sometimes.
I really lucked out. She genuinely likes shooting. That's her gun she's using.

Cool, that's one sweet lens. I've used the f4 300L and the 70-200L f2.8 the 2.8 is a sweet lens.

Yeah, it's my primary lens right now. I want to get the 10-22 EFS to fill my wide and ultra wide angle needs, and then I was looking to get something in the 70-200 or 300 range for my telephoto.
But money money money!

Yeah, the camera's got a countdown timer so we just listen for when the shutter is about to flip and start firing.
You can see in the 2nd and third pictures I've got two cases flying through the air. I was going for three but I was trying to keep a sort of tight group.
I really like that rifle a lot. Something really satisfying about putting something like that together yourself, having it be exactly what you want, and having it work flawlessly.
I'm taking it down to the range this weekend to get it sighted in properly. We'll see how accurate it is.

WE have a shack out in the middle of nowhere so we usually go out there, stay the night and then get up really early in the morning to shoot before it gets too hot.

Canon 70-200 f4 IS lens -- sharp as the 2.8 but half the price. If you shoot outside you will do fine with the f4 and the IS gives your three stops of steadiness. They do sell the tripod ring separately, tho, but with it and a good tripod you are golden.
Booshanky
07-10-2008, 05:25 PM
Boy you really pay for the IS don't you? The version of that lens sans-IS is like 560, but that one is almost 1100.
Eh, we'll see if I can get the wife to sign off on it.

IIRC the place in my avatar is Insight range off the 91 and the 605. But I did have a membership at the Firing Line in Huntington Beach for a year too so it could be there.
EDIT: I'm pretty sure it's Insight now that I look at it. The backdrop is much further than the Firing Line.
I live up in West LA now though, so I typically shoot at the LAX range whenever I get around to it. Or I just go to an outdoor range like Angeles or Burro so I can shoot all my guns.

Yeh must be cause I go to Firing Line now cause I live a block down from it.
Looks nice at Insight.
Yeh we go to Angeles mostly and Burro now and then.

Dwikkles, where in Vegas did you shoot? I'm familiar with the area (grew up there) but every time I visit, more and more stuff is popping up in the deserts where I used to shoot rabbits as a kid.
Resting your mag on the ground will lead to jams, just FYI. On the first pic, bring your support hand forward and your firing elbow in, rifle butt a little higher. It's uncomfortable as hell at first but shot placement will increase 1000% guaranteed. :)

OK if you take the 15 to Vegas and pass right through the city and continue about 15 minutes outside of it you will get of on the 91 N i believe it is,which is right near this large power station.Head up that road about 5-7 minutes and you'll see a large gravel turnout on the right hand side after a pretty hard curve.
There's alot of little gravel shoulder spots but only one major one.Last time I went some guy in a trailer was living back there so you might see that in the desert.
Then just drive back to the hills and you'll see a million shells on the ground at the spot.
It's really fun and we wanna go again asap!
