Actually, we're pretty much shooting that already. A Penny is just a bit smaller then 3/4 of an inch and we regularly shoot 3/4 dots at the Saugus match during the 5 dots drills. Average is 3 hits out of 5 for most shooters and some are able to shoot 4 and 5 hits.

That's prone with bipod/sand sock. Those guys shooting at 500 yards have specialized gears for benchrest, sitting, front and back rest.

Understanding the wind is probably the biggest challenge. Still awesome shooting though.

I shoot clay pigions at 1000 yards. I bet it's about the same as an egg at 500 except I have to double the wind factor.

I used to bullseye womp-rats in my t-16 back home. They're not much bigger than two meters. :50:

It's illegal to mutilate US currency.
Last I checked, pennies were still US currency.

700+ grains of cnc machined bullet does not hurt either...

Tell that to Walt Dinsey where they have the machines for you to stamp a penny with Mickey's picture.

I always wondered how they got away with doing that too.

Well.. found an answer for us. The guy wrote a letter to the treasury and got a response. Makes sense to me.

Seems like you have to pretty much be counterfeiting or benefit financially as the direct result of the alteration to make it illegal.

Let's shoot them pennies! Heck.. let's shoot all the coins and see which one offers better protection if we glued a bunch of them together to be be used as a ballistic vest!

As I recall the 'taters took a beating that day - would you prefer cantelope at 800 yards :p

Pomagranites at 1000 yards!

They'd lynch me for sure - I still get it because my 12"X18" maiden for 865 is placed so that you can't see your misses :D

Never done clays at 1K - have done them at 800 though - that requires a good position, a good rifle, good ammo and a smile and a wink from the wind gods.

That's a point well taken - I keep forgetting that the world is not ruled by by bullets weighing between 155 and 175 grains.

I was teaching my 13 year old stepson how to do a one shot zero while aiming at an ellusive 1000 yard clay bird. The second time he tossed a 750 grain Amax he said the point of impact was 2" low. I instructed him not to adjust the scope and just hold at the top of the little orange dot instead of the center. His third shot dusted the bird! See, it's so easy, even a 13 year old can do it! BTW, he's been shooting 50BMGs at closer ranges, weighing powder charges and seating .510 projectiles since he was 11.

Actually, if you compare NBRA records to FCSA records, you will find that better groups have been shot with little bullets than with "normal" 670-820 grain .510 bullets. I don't know if it's because the sub-50s shoot better. Or, if it's because there have been more record groups shot with the small stuff so statistically, there should be better groups on record.

T'Wolf,

Could you do an egg shoot for money? And could I use one of the Dragons or their kin?

They also get some kind of permit or exemption. IIRC, there is a sticker explaining it on every machine.

Randal, ya better keep an eye on it if ya bring it. Ya might see a few benji's where your 243 use to be.

Ahhh probably could but I don't think Puff or her kin would much like the area you'd be shooting from.

Funny you should mention a penny. This was shot at 50 yards with a mini-14 equipped with an aimpoint. A lucky shot.

Who cares, they are pretty much worthless anyways. That is why they are considering not minting them anymore, as it costs more to make a penny than it is worth.

Coin Act of 1792 has been violated!
